In the midst of the “debt ceiling crisis” (AKA, massively overblown, overhyped media sensationalism that I guaruntee you will be solved by Monday), a startling revelation has come to light: Apple officially has more cash on hand than the US government.
In the midst of the debt reports Keep Reading

Just because you’re gonna hear about it sooner or later…if you haven’t heard about it already…which you have to have….if only just because people won’t shut up about it…
The newest rumor in the hip hop R&B whatever world is that P Diddy and that old broad he used to date way back when are back together again. That’s right, after much-publicized break-up with Marc Anthony, J Lo is back in the arms of P Diddy. Supposedly. I can’t be the last one left on the planet who doesn’t Keep Reading

We’ve asked some hard questions about the shootings in Oslo.
Apparently, according to clinical psychologist Christopher Ferguson, we weren’t asking the right ones. The real one we should be asking is apparently “is blaming the shooting on video games racist?” Keep Reading

I don’t know why no one ever thought of this before…
But kudos to The Game Station, a comedy team/gaming website, for parodying The Godfather with video game characters. In other words, you’ve got Mario playing the Marlon Brando role, and various classic characters like Mega Man, Solid Snake, characters from Halo and others representing the heads of the various families. According to EA CEO John Riccitiello, the gaming development cycle has drastically changed. Speaking on a conference call with the always-eloquent folks at Gamasutra, Riccitiello spoke of the industry changes that his company’s had to deal with, and one of his points stands out above the rest. In the ‘lucky bastard’ category of rich and famous news this week, Soulja Boy reportedly celebrated his 21st birthday by spending $35 million on a private jet.
Since when does a jet cost $35 million, especially if it can’t break the sonic barrier? Well this was merely Keep Reading

More and more people are saying it’s unlikely there will be a Def Jam DJ Rapstar 2, and perhaps that’s mostly because the first edition, well, kind of sucked (although there were still some very favorable reviews).
Crummy games are made day in and day out, but the game’s less-than-thrilled reception left many hip hop fans to wonder where Keep Reading

HA! Called it! Someone at the White House HAS spent time on 4Chan. (five years ago, maybe). Gizmodo’s reporting possibly the greatest response anyone’s ever had to calling politics ‘boring.’ When @wiggsd complained “This WH correspondence briefing isn’t nearly as entertaining as yesterday’s,” on twitter, someone at the White House got cheeky and did the only thing they could do. They sent him the following video. Keep Reading

Brian Barrett over at Gizmodo wrote a post talking about the nature of “free” content on the internet, and how we should get used to the notion of subscribing and paying for things like the New York Times, TV Shows, and other things we’re used to getting for either free or with the basic cover charge that is internet access. I recommend you read it, mainly for his argument that the internet as we knew it Keep Reading

According to The Jewish Chronicle, Rapper Shyne has reportedly given up curse words, as well as women, in his reggae-flavored hip-hop songs.
If you hadn’t heard, Shyne recently converted to Chasidism, a sect of Judaism, in effort to get in touch (obviously) with his more spiritual side. Shyne even relocated to Israel recently and made an effort to reach out to famed rapper/DJ Matisyahu, also a devout follower of the religion.
In case you’ve forgotten, back in 1998, the young blood was poised to make a big splash in hip-hop when a then P Diddy (or was it Puff Daddy back then?) became his mentor. While living it up at a Manhattan nightclub, there was , in Shyne’s own words,”a terrible mistake I made when I was young” when he fired off a handgun, and injured three people. His punishment: 10 years in prison. He was released in 2009.
For the past 9 months, Shyne has been living in Jerusalem and studying his religion 12 hours a day. His plan is now to release a double album and follow it up with a world tour. Hey, good for him for setting himself straight. Sounds like a hell of a commitment, but with Matisyahu as his new P Diddy, at least he has the support he needs.

Yeah you heard right. DC Comics is re-booting all their 52 comic franchises. Perhaps this is a good thing, as it does seem lately that most people attend Comic-Con to see what movies are being made out of comic books, instead of what new comics are out. For a close-up at new conceptual art for em all, go here.
But with Green Lantern‘s relative box-office disappointment, despite intense hype at last year’s Comic-Con, the comic company has apparently turned back Keep Reading

In one of the more out-of-left-field recent announcements from the hip hop world, 50 Cent announced this week that he will be turning his ‘self-help’ book The 50th Law into a comic book. (Isn’t the idea of 50 Cent writing a self-help book alone enough to make you want to buy it?! )I guess if it’ll help turn some young bloods into budding entrepreneurs, then have at it I guess.
Co-authored by Robert Greene, the guy who helped write the original novel, which tells in 10 successive chapters, how to confront and conquer fear. Robert Greene was a noted strategist in the self-help world and recognized 50 Cent for his Machiavellian-like persona, i.e. someone who emerges in a time of chaos and helps establish a new order (though I wonder what rapper Machiavelli would have to say to that). Though few pages of the actual comic book are out, it looks like anything but a rush job. The 50th Law remained atop the New York Times bestseller list or a long time, and the hopes for this one are big — whether it lives up to the hype is another story. We’ll keep ya posted.

Jace Hall is featured as a talking toaster in the latest patch Fallout: New Vegas. The segment originally aired on the season 4 finale of The Jace Hall Show, with many fans originally thinking that it was a joke (in some ways it was).
This isn’t the first time that a scene within the Jace Hall Show has turned into a real life video game experience. Epic gamer Ice-T turned his Jace Hall Show performance into a character on Gears of War 3 and now performing one of the main songs on the soundtrack.

Rihanna officially closed out her Loud tour with a new single from the album, “Cheers”. Posing in that sultry-yet-carefree way that only Rihanna can, the new EP is subtitled “Drink to That,” (which we proved in our last article covering the neo queen of soul, she’s more than apt at doing) and features Rihanna taking in the sun from a classic convertible and just kinda looking hot as always.
Tweeting to her fans, Rihanna let out an official ‘cheers’, also a sort of official celebration after the recent successful North American leg of her Loud tour: “N.America was phenomenal!!! Truly an unforgettable experience! Never felt this close to you…thank you lovers! #RihannaNavy.”
The new single is supposed to hit heavy rotation on radio air waves beginning August 2nd. Well, that’s a bit of a long wait. In the meantime, how about you tide yourself over with a pic:
