20 Signs That a Geek Girl Isn’t Truly a Geek

It’s no secret that the internet world is overflowing with hot girls pretending to be geeks. Sure some of them happen to be attractive women who also love geeky things (in other words…they’re perfect) but for whatever reason, be it the upward trend of the hipster or the rise of technology towards taking over everything, girls have made it very convenient to sell themselves as geeks.

Now we won’t mention names, but we know they’re out there…they’re on our TV’s, they’re in our movies, they’re wearing T-shirts that tell us they like geeks but in reality their hitting up the guy with the popped collar, wearing the popular cologne.

How do you spot such women? How do you tell the difference between a geek girl and a girl pretending to be a geek. Most of the time you can tell a poser a mile away, but just in case, here are 20 can’t miss signs that will immediatly tell you if a geek girls isn’t truly a geek:

1) She’s only seen the last three Star Wars

In other words, she has no idea what Star Wars is. This is the easiest thing to spot, and usually any girl that hasn’t bothered to see Star Wars won’t bother to pretend to be a geek.

2) She’s extremely vocal about her love for Jersey Shore

This could just make her annoying, but no true geek is going to waste their time watching this garbage.

3) She thinks The Green Yamo is an expensive drink

She’ll probably expect you to buy her the “drink” as well…

4) Halloween is the only day she ever dresses up

Movie openings, game releases, MMORPG related events…let me count the ways.

5) She doesn’t know who this guy is

See number 1.

6) She watched Lord of the Rings…once

Add the fact she’s almost assuredly never read the books and you’ll be able to draw a line in the sand quicker than you can say pwnage.

7) She wears glasses even though her vision is 20/20

Call this the Zooey Deschanel effect…

8 ) She thinks Atari is a clothing brand

There’s a difference between being a hipster and being a geek…

9) She thinks a jumpdrive is a Sexual Position

Now this might not be a bad thing, but it speaks volumes nonetheless.

10) She was surprised to learn that they made Captain America into a Comic

Try not to lose consciousness.

11) She owns a Kindle

Maybe a tad subjective, but most books worth reading i.e. the classics aren’t available on Kindle, plus, it’s awkward to read something on a device that’s terribly inefficient and has about as many features as a flip phone.

12) She thinks PC stands for “politically correct”

RUN!

13) She DVR’S Big Bang Theory

Again, subjective…but any girl that feels the need to bask in the lives of characters pretending to be geeks is a bit of a red flag.

14) She thought Harry Potter looked better in 3D.

Harry Potter is one thing, but an obsession or affinity towards anything 3D is pushing it.

15) She thinks Jace Hall is where everyone eats dinner on campus.

For some reason the phrase “noob mountain” instantly comes to mind…

16) She thinks n00b and 1337 are misspelled.

Not even worth explaining.

17) She tried to settle the Modern Warfare/Battlefield debate in Poly-Sci Class

At least she like politics…

18) She hates Math

Not everyone can be a wiz, but anybody who doesn’t at least have an enthusiasm for Mathematics is probably questionable at best.

19) She thought Azeroth was the name of a night club

It probably is in some other dimension, but this one will tell you everything you need to know.

20) She has 4 apple products

Perhaps a bit divisive, but ultimately it speaks to a reliance on products influenced by the mainstream and not actual geeks who realize their limitations. That and it almost assuredly means she’s not a true gamer, since there isn’t a PC in the mix anywhere.

So there you have it. What did I leave off the list…what else needs to be added to the list…am I out of my mind? Again, not a knock on girls who make an effort to connect with geeky things…just don’t pretend or try pander to those living the gamer lifestyle. You’re easier to spot than you think.
