Not much has been heard about the rumored live-action Voltron movie ever since these stunning concept photos were released. Its status on IMBD status is pretty much non-existent, with no release date or cast/crew yet attached, and as-yet-unconfirmed news that Justin Marks’ script has been pulled due to rights reversion.
Fortunately this Voltron live-action short, featured this week on Tor, paints a picture of what a final product could one day look like.
“The End” is an unabashedly hopeless vision of the Voltron Force’s last days, with an aged Lance awakening to find himself completely alone and wounded in space (save his reliable yet heavily-damaged Red Lion).
Trying desperately to communicate with Pidge, Lunk, and Aurora, Lance is informed they’re all dead, and that Zarcon has won. He sends a communique to the Alliance himself, telling them to be prepared for the worst.
Even on its relatively minuscule budget, it’s clear director Alex Albrecht put in a lot of hard work on this one, and its minimalist charm and cool concept are what make it the most interesting. With things apparently up in the air at 20th Century Fox, “The End” paints a cool picture of what a Voltron feature could look like, especially since it’s a small fraction of what the feature length’s budget would be.

That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
