Say what you will about the advent of new and ‘more advanced’ RPGs like The Elder Scrolls and WoW over the past decade or so, the Final Fantasy series is one of the most beloved and was an originator in the world of video game visual RPGs.
Yet despite its large following and cult-like status, a common lament in the FF series is how unpronounceable some of the terminology and items in the series are. A clever little animated piece focusing on the sheer lack of pronounceable-ness, Dorkly’s “Final Fantasy VII Controversy” brings action and interaction between characters to a standstill as they stumble, and argue, over the pronunciation of certain characters/spells/items.
Call it an ‘observational humor’ take on some of the genre’s more overlooked (if somewhat irrelevant) annoyances. But this points to a bigger problem with lots of other RPGs — one that forums like this one highlight, and one many would-be fantasy fans might have with tackling the genre in general.
Yet forums like ‘Oh, What’s in a Name?’ on Pigfarts show why so many Final Fantasy (and fantasy in general) fans are willing to overlook the quandary. The video below may confirm this for some, or seem an embellishment for others. See what you think.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
