When the plug was pulled on Toonami a couple years ago, there was an outpour of rage from loyal fans, all demanding that it immediately be resurrected. A few years and a good deal of begrudged anime fans later, Adult Swim was suddenly running ads encouraging lovelorn Toonami fans (presumably as part of a April fools‘ joke), to Tweet their pissed off-edness. Which many did.
So for longtime fans, all hoping for the triumphant return of their beloved series, might there be a glimmer of hope?
Adult Swim gave us a little bit of an answer this past Sunday, when it ran a series of commercials yesterday acknowledging the response:
“We’re listening,” said one. Another one: “We’re looking into it” Today there was exchange ignited a fury of controversy on the Internet: Could tons of Toonami fans going through withdrawal finally have something to rest their laurels on? Right now, ‘Hopefully’ is the best we can hope for. After all, Toonami wasn’t just the solitary refuge for all anime fans who couldn’t get their anime fix from stubborn parents or overseas vendors.
It wasn’t just the last bastion of Japanimation for those who longed for pure wall-to-wall mecha action, just so they had something to pass out in front of after the food coma hit. Toonami was a classy kind of joint which, like a great classic rock station, paid respect to the elders (without as many repeats) whilst saluting the newer wave of anime.
So you had stuff like Gundam, Robotech, Neon Genesis, and even f*ckin Gigantor, in addition to stuff like Naruto and Hikaru No Go. And judging by the number of angry fans that responded, there may be something in the works. While it’s still too soon to tell whether anything will happen, can we agree there’s at least some stock we can put in Adult Swim’s response? Either way we’ll be keeping you posted.

Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
