The whole ‘Nerds vs. Jocks’ trope was reliable fodder for plot point-deficient screwball comedies back in the 80s, and seems to have kinda died out since. Many might add that aside from some of Judd Apatow’s stuff, it hasn’t been since the days of John Hughes when angsty teens got movies they could relate to that were also fun to watch.
That must be why the Jedi have blessed us with “Hughes the Force”, a snazzy little Star Wars/John Hughes movie crossover. Think Weird Science (two geeks must come up with a hot date for the school party) with some Return of the Jedi action (said geeks must utilize their slave Princess Leia to create said date), a little bit of The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller‘s Day Off thrown in for good measure, and you get the idea. It’s a bit odd not to hear Leia with an English accent like Kelly LeBrock, but wouldn’t most guys preferred to have seen ‘ol Kelly dressed as Slave Leia anyways?
Highlights include a pretty fancy modern take on the classic canteen scene, our intrepid and intoxicated geek heroes busting Vader’s balls, while many of the same logistical questions re: Death Star/Star Destroyer facilities from Smith’s Clerks are re-visited. Kevin Smith also appears as a hologram offering sage advice.
Credit filmmaker J.C. Reifenberg and Kevin Smiths’ YouTube channel for putting this all together, and all I can do is hope they come up with a few more.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
