Remember those goddamn gorgeous pics of a not-nearly-nude-enough Kate Upton we posted about a month ago? You may have heard that the anonymous, pro-thin blogger known as Skinny Gurl recently talked smack about Upton’s Sports Illustrated layout on her SkinnyGossip site, calling the model a ‘piggie’ and saying that Upton looked like she was “confidently lumbering up the runway like there’s a buffet at the end of it.”
While some of us might find such comments insane look back at Upton’s boobs just to make sure, and maybe move on to another site, the post sparked some serious fights on the SG forums…others viewed it as supportive of a hateful, pro-anorexia agenda. According to ABC News, SkinnyGurl ended up getting into a lot of trouble over the whole thing.
Not only has her site, Skinny Gossip been the ire of long-time haters and anorexia support groups alike, but last week Anonymous even made a DdoS (Denial of Service) attack the site, shutting it down and prompting the girl behind it to wonder “what the hell (she’d) gotten herself into.” Others cited remarks like this as possible inclination: “Did you know that humans are 80% genetically identical to cows? Well, allow me to prove it to you,” which were followed up with some ‘uncomplimentary’ pics of Upton’s lingerie-clad back.
As some of SkinnyGurl’s comments seem almost tweeny in their cruelty (along the lines of, ‘ewwww, gross! LOL’, et.al), and the majority of people probably think Upton has a great body (GQ and SI in a month=no slouch/no pouch), it might also be true that this has been blown up way out of proportion. SkinnyGurl has already received death and rape threats, and reading her forums it’s obvious that everyone finds the human body — all shapes and sizes — attractive for different reasons. Perhaps most alarming is how the level of vitriol from both sides is at an epidemic level.
It’s perhaps worth noting also that the incident has prompted SkinnyGurl to ‘re-think’ her postings, including eliminating the Starving Tips of the Day –probably a sensible move there — and “adding a section to the community with resources and paths to assistance for issues including depression, eating disorders, and self-injury.” She also reminded her detractors and readers that she’s just as entitled to her opinion as those on the other side, which is also true.
Too much hate? Not enough? I’d venture the former, since she seems to have learned her lesson and had a change of heart — but if you’d like, head over here to check it out.

That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
