I know what you’re probably thinking: who gives a f*ck about Popeye? (Perhaps more appropriately, does anyone under the age of 20 even know who Popeye is anymore?) Yet if you give Genndy Tartakovsky‘s Popeye fan film a chance, you’ll find something akin to the Nolan adaptation of Batman. Only more in its own twisted, pulpy, kinda WTF way.
It’s dark, it’s brooding, it’s also a bit violent and even bloody in parts. And hey, it’s even in 3D (you won’t need the glasses). Best of all, no Robin Williams montages to sit through.
Though Bluto is a little thinner than I remember him being, and I could have used a bit more of a grotesque Popeye — that’s what made him neat to watch as a kid; he looked kinda messed up and had a homely stick of a girlfriend, and perhaps in some weird way that gave hope to all of us.
Still, if some modern-day Hollywood noir director was hoping for a shot at a Popeye remake, this may give him some ideas. Okay, so maybe not Chris Nolan, but Nicholas Winding-Refn. You know what? Never mind, it’s like neither of them.
Also — In case you’re tempted to dismiss this as douchebaggery, check out the more in-depth ‘look’ at Popeye up close, below this one. He looks about as much like Popeye as he does Robin Williams, but damn if he doesn’t nail the laugh.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
