The cartoon version of The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, has received a Blu-Ray/DVD release date of September 25th, and yes will try to focus honorably on the first half or so of Frank Miller’s beloved 1986 graphic novel. (All this despite the outcry of Miller/Batman loyalists who believe most animators simply “copy the (graphic) novel shot for shot and try not make it look terrible” – and apparently there’s more than one out there.) Via MTV, here’s the plot synopsis:
It’s been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with race cars and liquor – but the bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants…
The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once again don the Dark Knight’s cowl, and his dramatic capture of the villain returns him to crime-fighting – simultaneously making him the target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City. Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by the Mutant leader.
Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns to protect Gotham from foes new…and old.
That probably sounds at least somewhat familiar to most of you — being that a similar plot thread was a huge part of The Dark Knight Rises. While some seem to be lamenting the fact that Batman will be voiced by none other than Robocop/Buckaroo Banzai himself, Peter Weller — I can’t see anything but good in this. His apparent disdain for most things in life provide him with the perfect attitude to be a disdainful, forced-to-come-out-of-retirement Batman.
Weller will also be joined by Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap) mainstay, Michael McKean and Ariel Winter as the Girl Wonder — while animation guru Bruce Timm is directing. Anyways, here’s the trailer so you can make up your own mind. Fail or not?:

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
