For those of you who are not privy to the contact us button at the top of the site, you may not be aware that we have a steady avenue of messages from fans like you — ranging from when we’ll be in North Carolina to whether or not Felicia Day still has baby jesus (proof meets pudding).
This message from a fan of The Jace Hall Show falls somewhere in between. How do you make an online series that looks like The Jace Hall Show? How do you take your online series to the next level? Here was the fan’s question:
Jace i’ve recently discovered your awesome hilarious show and I was wondering what equipment you use to produce your show (cameras, video editing software & special effects).
For the past 2 years I have been taking an audio visual class and creating short videos for my school and airing them in the launch room for everyone to see. I would like to incorporate some of the mechanics of your show into mine to brighten up the laughter that we have been missing.
Here is Jace’s response:
I will start with the basics of your question regarding what we use to physically produce The Jace Hall Show. This year’s endeavor has been quite different than the first four seasons simply because of the 3D aspect, which by and large has completely changed our workflow and in all honesty has told me WHY most seasoned and professional filmmakers choose NOT to shoot in 3D.
I believe the nature of your question is how do you stylize a show so that it can be funny, using a camera or your knowledge of visual effects…?
The only way I can answer this is to encourage you to film and film and film until you find YOUR OWN style that makes you unique. The Jace Hall Show has evolved over 80 episodes, to the point to where we have a system in place on how the show gets created — that didn’t happen overnight.
You sir, are actually AHEAD of the game! You are making and delivering videos that you can show to an audience! This by and large is exactly what you should be doing and I promise you there is no secret ingredient I can offer other than to tell you to keep going with your endeavors and undoubtedly you will find “the mechanics” to your own style.

The greatest advantage to digital media is that it now allows us nearly unlimited chances to get things right — we can view, review and display our content to newer audiences everyday and get their feedback — this is inherently how a style is created.
We focus on exhibiting Daily Series on our site for exactly this reason so you can see what other people are doing and reflect on what elements they are bringing to the table and decide whether or not you’d like to see these in your work.
We’re honored you look up to what we’re doing with The Jace Hall Show, but please just know we are creating a show that is fun, has basically no rules, and is meant to bring a lighter side to the world of gaming. We’ve had success following these metrics and this should give you a great start moving forward with whatever you enjoy creating!
