Recently we reported to you on some troubling news with The Last Guardian’s trademark being abandoned. Although not officially cancelled many felt as though this was the final straw that would eventually convert the title into vaporware.Today we get word from Sony confirming that there is nothing to worry about saying that the title is still in development and will indeed release on the Playstation 3.
Shuhei Yoshida from Sony World Wide Studios told Eurogamer today at Gamescom in Germany that the title is just simply delayed due to a number of complicated technical issues.
Some have suggested that the game’s impressive visual quality and groundbreaking game mechanics are just taking a while to get a handle of.
Eurogamer asked Yoshida what was happening with The Last Guardian he replied, “The team is still working on it very hard,”. He continues saying, “There are certain technical issues they’ve been working on. That’s the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn’t seem to be making much progress. But internally there is a lot of work going into creating the title.”
Although Eurogamer got a chance to talk to Sony about the title there was no word of it during the company’s press conference at Gamescom. After missing TGS 2011, E3 2012, Gamescom and then iconic game creator Fumito Ueda parting ways with Sony to finish the game on contract many believed the title was dead in the water.

According to Eurogamer, Yoshida said the game was indeed playable already but the dev team at Sony Japan Studio is having to re-do work on the game they had previously completed due to technical issues.
Shuhei Yoshida said, “We had the game playable,“ continuing with, “At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done.”
Rumors have been circling suggesting that the delay was due to the game being developed for next-gen hardware but Yoshida insists the title will be released for PS3.
