Ubisoft has announced a brand new four part series documenting the making of Assassin’s Creed 3 and today we get the first episode (below). Over the course of the series, called ‘Inside Assassin’s Creed 3′, the game’s developers will be “shedding some light” on what it takes to create such an ambitious title considering the franchise’s reputation among gamers. The four part, behind the scenes doc will show us exactly what it takes to re-design and re-invent, what is quite possibly, one of gaming’s “most iconic franchises”
In episode 1, ‘Making A Masterpiece’, the dev team, outside experts and historians all give us a behind the scenes look at the various “pillars” of AC3.
Alex Hutchinson, AC3 creative director, explains how many people it actually takes to create a game of this size and scope. Although the game is mainly being created by Ubisoft in Montreal, Hutchinson says the game is being worked on by “several hundred” people in five different studios located all over the world.
The associate producer on the next iteration in the AC series, Philippe Ducharme, tells us in the video that the game will feature over 30 hours of gameplay. Keep in mind, Ducharme, is probably referring to the main story arc, as we all know the sandbox like design of AC games present a large world to get lost in for hours on end. He goes on to say that AC3 will also feature over two and a half hours of cinematics.
As per usual the AC team is working very closely with historians and various relevant experts to ensure a sense of realism is maintained. Some of the various assassinations will take place during major historical events and on major key figures of the time.
After digging up old street maps of the time for New York and Boston the team began re-creating those environments almost street for street. Hutchinson says, to be specific, they re created the cities “major avenue, by major avenue” at about 1 to 3 scale.
AC3 hits October 30 for PS3 and Xbox 360 followed by a PC release about a month later. At this point there is still no word on the Wii U release date.
Next time on Inside Assassin’s Creed 3, Episode 2 will cover Combat, Weapons and Tactics.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
