Bethesda has recently come out saying that it is unsure whether or not the company will be supporting the Wii U.
According to IGN (via MCV) Pete Hines, the Vice President of PR and marketing at Bethesda, said that normally the company releases on all platforms that will support them. At this point, Hines explains, Nintendo has yet to do so with the Wii U and whether or not the “Wii U does down the road is TBD.”
Although Bethesda, like any developer, is excited about what the next generation can hold in terms of innovation and raw power, Hines says that he disagrees with the fact that this console generation has lasted too long.
Even after major studio and publishing heads like Yves Guillemot from Ubisoft, Square’s Julien Merceron and Frank Gibeau from EA all said that they feel this particular hardware generation has indeed lasted far too long. Hines, on the other hand, feels as though, even with the innovations it will bring, it will cause a whole new set of issues among developers and their audience.

Hines explains, “I don’t think the current generation of consoles are holding us back.” Continuing with, “There is still plenty that we are able to do visually, technically and from a story-telling standpoint. And there’s this huge built-in audience now.”
He goes on to say that the first years of a cycle can be very difficult on developers and in turn shows in their products.
“For me the problems with new consoles are two-fold. The developers are trying to hit a moving technical target, because the platforms are being built.”
Hines then mentions the frustration behind not having the final console to develop on, “A new console doesn’t just show up a year before launch and is exactly what it will be when it comes out.”
“The second point is that your install base always starts at zero,” Hines says. He goes on to say that when a game finally comes out only a certain percentage of gamers have adopted the new system meaning that “you have divided your audience.”
With an important Nintendo event looming where most of us assume we will finally be getting details on the Wii U there is no telling how serious Bethesda is about not supporting it. In the mean time check out this cover from the upcoming issue of Gameinformer which features a 10 page story on Super Mario Bros U.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
