We reported late last week that the internet was trying to solve why the video game industry had suddenly lost 12 million gamers.
Today we’re reporting (via an inital report on PC World) that the fundraising website Kickstarter has reported over $50 million dollars has been raised on projects related to video games. That makes it the second most funded category, moving up six spots from it’s previous spot, last year.
That number was undoubtedly boosted by the Ouya, an “Indie” console that eclipsed it’s fundraising goal of $950,000 by almost 1000%. It also received assists from Reaper’s Bones kickstarter and Double Fine Adventure, both received over $3.3 million respectively.
A Kickstarter spokesman also pointed out 7 of the top 11 Kickstarter projects to reach $1 million were video game projects.
The number represents a huge increase from the $3.6 million raised last year, staggering considering the year still has four months left.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
