Exactly what makes Bit Shifter so different from the dozens of other chiptune artists out there, may be hard to tell. We’ have a suspicion that it’s his concentration on the actual chiptunes aspect of it, as opposed to getting distracted and bogged down in dubstep or any other number of genres.
Clearly he must be doing something right, managing to place in many a chiptune connoisseur’s top 10 list over the past few years.
Maybe part of it is that the New York-based DJ/video game enthusiast, who uses a Game Boy to create most of his sounds, writes songs like “Bokusatsu Shoujo Koubou: “Boys‘n’Shoujos Kingdom (Bit Shifter Shoujoligarchy Mix)” — which along with its catchy title, manages to throw about 80 million different chiptune melodies in your face, not to mention a drum beat that would make any death metal drummer’s head hurt. Probably literally…
“Warm Moving Bodies,” on the other hand, manage to put aside some of the chaos long enough to make an actual song, complete with something resembling a verse/chorus/verse packed alongside the 8-bit beats and drum patterns. Not to mention that it’s next to impossible getting that f*cking melody/chorus out of our heads for the rest of the week. Thanks, Mr. Shifter.
On the other hand, there’s stuff like “Easy Prey”, have earned Bit Shifter love from around the world, with people from Columbia to Russia heaping praise on its enigmatic, erratic time signatures and frenzied beats. Why? Hard to say — it might be the utterly eclectic mix of abilities that draw his fans to him, or maybe an affinity for Game Boy music. One of the better chiptune artists you’ll hear, Bit Shifter is self-described as “all the rage, harsh, and annoying.”Hard to say which of those adjectives rings truest, but his Soundcloud page offers a more up close and personal look.

Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
