Colleen Lachowicz, or Santiaga, as she’s known in the World of Warcraft universe, is a Level 85 orc warrior chick. For the WoW-unfamiliar, that’s the highest skill level a player can achieve. In the gaming world, this is obviously l33t status, perhaps even cause for hero worship — in a political race, not so much.
Turns out Lachowicz is running for Congress in Maine, and the Maine GOP is pointing to those WoW gaming habits as yet another reason she would make a crappy candidate.
According to the Maine GOP website: ”Colleen Lachowicz, AKA Santiaga, is a gamer in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft (WoW), which takes place in the make-believe land Azeroth. Today, Colleen/Santiaga is an orc assassination rogue playing at level 85–the highest level one can attain. She and the members of her “Wreck List Guild”—Colleen/Santiaga’s WoW online alliance—post comments to each other on liberal online forums including the Daily Kos, where they discuss politics, military policies, and WoW battle tactics. Studies have found the average WoW gamer is 28, and spends 22.7 hours a week playing in Azeroth.”
While a 23-hour-a-week gaming habit sounds like a lot for an aspiring politician, they sound like they’re reaching on this one. Why mention the ‘average age’ of a WoW player? Because video games are for kids? (the average gamer’s age is somewhere between 30-34, by the way). Why attack the liberal online forums where Lachowicz and her friends talk about WoW? Because gaming is a typically Democratic habit? Not to mention that phrases like ‘orc assassination rogue’, while absolutely true, seem like cheap/lame assaults on her character. For the record, if the Democrats were employing as douchey a move against the Republicans, we’d point that out in a heartbeat — but seriously:
According to lezgetreal, the GOP has raised questions about Lachowicz’ ‘fitness for office’, largely because of her character’s ‘rogue’ status. They went digging online and this was the best they could come up with? LGR also reports that a statement was released by a Republican spokesman, saying that “(Lachowicz’ gaming) certainly raises questions about Lachowicz’s maturity and her ability to make serious decisions for the people of Senate District 25.” Lachowicz, meanwhile, has called the GOP ‘out of touch.’ You can read Lachowicz’ blog and recent thoughts on the situation here; doesn’t seem like she’s shying away from her online alter-ego anytime soon.

Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
