“I heart geek” shirts…they’re more than just a novelty or a not so subtle way for a girl to get a guys attention. They personify what women want–a geek–whether they know it or not.
Not all gamers are geeks, and not all geeks are gamers, but for the sake of keeping things simple (we are talking dating here) let’s look at what makes gamers unique, and why this ultimately makes them a good catch for any girl looking for a solid guy.
Here are 8 reasons why girls want to date a gamer, whether they know it or not:
Gamers are Confident
You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying that “nice guys finish last” or “girls love bad boys who love to be bad” (or however it goes). Both of those are not true…what girls really want is a confident guy, someone that knows what they’re doing and isn’t unsure about the direction they’re headed in.
Enter the consummate gamer…if there’s anyone more confident in their unique abilities they probably have doctor in front of their first name. Gamers personify confidence, albeit in the “gaming universe” but there’s no rule which says that can’t translate into the “dating world”.
Gamers Never Forget a Date and Plan Ahead for Everything
Ask any gamers when Gears of War 3 comes out. It’s the same date they would have told you 6 months ago (Duke Nukem fans…that’s a different story). Gamers are religious about dates, and plan accordingly so that they’ll always be prepared. How many times have you missed a pre-order for a game in the past 5 years?
For the ladies out there looking for a guy that not only remembers your birthday, but your anniversary and when you routinely get your hair cut, look no further than the gamer–like the elephant, he never forgets.
Finger Strength and Thumb Dexterity
This one comes in handy when you and your loved one want to play a friendly game of thumb war, or just want to enjoy “other games” with your fingers, like playing with a chinese finger trap.
Ask what drives any girl crazy, and second to chocolate roses will be a guy that knows how to use his fingers (according to an Onion poll taken amongst canadian women 24 to 33). All those gaming sessions can really cause havoc on your thumbs, but what doesn’t kill you only makes your fingers stronger.
Communication
Many relationships die because couples don’t know how to communicate with one another. They just act awkward half the time, don’t discuss the problem, and end up taking a trip to Wendy’s where they are passive aggressive towards one another and complain that their baked potato is too cold (yes, this happens to everyone).
Gamers don’t waste time hiding an issue, in multi-player, if you aren’t communicating you’re not going to get anywhere. It behooves you to talk openly, be it about strategy or talking smack (the former is recommended in relationships) in video games. Subtlety, and especially passiveness, rarely pay off.
Selflessness
Here’s an interesting survey:
IT geeks were ranked…the most selfless and adventurous lovers…Even more specifically, the survey found that 82 percent of IT “geeks” interviewed said that their partners’ pleasure was the most important thing to them.
How many times have you literally taken one for the team in Halo capture the Flag, COD’s multi-player, or gotten blown up defusing a bomb in CS? It’s all for the cause, allowing the team to flourish, even if you make some sacrifices along the way. Sounds like the perfect addition to any relationship doesn’t it…
Affinity for Gadgets
This very well could go into the “finger strength” category, but needless to say, the fact gamers have a fascination with all things gadgets has to be a turn on for a girl looking for a guy that knows how to push her buttons and controller every move.
There’s also plenty to be said about the guy who can AFFORD the hottest gadgets on the market–some people like fancy cars, others power laces. To each their own…
A job
Perhaps the biggest misnomer regarding the gaming community is that gamers don’t have jobs, they just sit around all day playing nintendo making occasional trips to the grocery to refresh the pork grinds/energy drink supply.
But gamers are just as, if not more productive, to society than the average individual. Most americans play on average 18 hours of games a week and watch almost 30 hours per week in TV alone.
People are looking to hire gamers and tech geeks based on their imagination and outside the box thinking, and gaming on their work breaks Americans are watching Kim Kardashian and cooking shows. Who is being more productive?
Commitment to the Cause
Despite some recent reports to the contrary, video gamers finish what they start, and they’re most loyal to the games that give them something great in return. In essence, the perfect formula for a great relationship. Loyalty, trust, commitment, everything that a gamer embodies to the perfect title, just translated to the person that they’re dating.
