It’s official…Apple just sent out invites confirming the rumored October 4th keynote, which judging by the “Let’s Talk iPhone” tagline on the invite, will definitely be next-gen iPhone related. The event, as rumored, will be held at Apple’s own campus in Cupertino, California.
The event is supposed to be the first hosted by recently appointed CEO Tim Cook. It is unclear why Apple’s chose its own headquarters to host the event rather than their usual San Francisco-based venues. However, some are speculating it might be due to a demonstration of 4G LTE capabilities that requires equipment Apple has on campus.
Of course we still don’t know for sure what we’ll be seeing. Most expect an iPhone 4 refresh branded “iPhone 4S” to make an appearance. That device is rumored to be largely unchanged from the currently shipping iPhone 4 apart from an upgraded A5 chip, 8-megapixel camera, and other minor hardware changes. It is also expected to be a less expensive iPhone variant aimed the “low-end” market.
There is still the possibility we will also get a look at a full-fledged iPhone 5 upgrade, although the majority of analysts seem to think this is unlikely. We’ll of course keep you updated live as it happens on October 4th. The event is slated to kick off at 10am PT.
