Since the iPhone 4S was launched to the public on Friday, October 14th, it has already broken pre-order records, been taken apart, and now launched into space as a tribute to Steve Jobs and smashed to pieces in a drop test against the Galaxy S II.
The guys over at Final Cut King just posted this video (below) showing two iPhone 4Ss going into space attached to a weather balloon and landing safely thanks to a parachute and cases from OtterBox. Some are calling this video out as being a fake, however, as FinalCutKing is known for his visual effect and Final Cut Pro skills. You be the judge. Here’s an explanation uploaded with the video:
“We launched 2 iPhone 4S phones with a weather balloon to go up to 100,000. We put one of the iPhone 4S’s on an interval photo timer app and the other on video mode. We used s Spot GPS tracker (though I would not recommend it because it only tracks in 15 minutes increments.”
The iPhone 4S in this second video below the fold wasn’t so lucky…
The video below shows an iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II drop test put together by SquareTrade. While it’s no surprise that the iPhone’s glass enclosure will crack in a fight with pavement from just about any height, you might be surprised how resilient the Galaxy S II is. Note: iPhone warranty provider SquareTrade doesn’t provide coverage on intentional damage.
