BUT after the online debut of pirated/studio-endorsed Dark Knight Rises trailers, general response has been pretty f*cking ecstatic, except for the fact that no one can understand what the f*ck that creepy looking masked guy in the prologue/trailer is saying.
That would be Tom Hardy playing Bane, and he kinda sounds like Dudley Moore if he were breathing through a resuscitator. But I understood Moore and I can for the most part understand Bane. About half of it. Sort of. The general consensus seems to be that surely Nolan will fix it with ADR or special post production vocal re-recording…
Well guess what?! He ain’t. According to The Hollywood Reporter, today Nolan announced the most he’ll do is tinker with the editing. Yeah, that’s about it.
All this despite the onslaught of uneasy tweets which followed the releases, including this one:
“The Dark Knight Rises prologue was really great, especially when Bane spoke the soon-to-be-classic line: ‘Mmrbl ffrmrff hmrbblfmm.’” From fanboys to critics, NO ONE CAN UNDERSTAND THE GIMP.
There’s 3 ways to deal with this news:
1. Nolan’s lying, and WB will eventually force him to re-record.
2.’In Nolan we trust‘, like the saying goes — even if that means we still can’t understand one of his characters, can’t understand the movie, and said adage will be disproved come July.
3. Nolan’s poised to be the new James Cameron circa Terminator 2/Titanic, and couldn’t care less what you say, so shut up and take it (and, incidentally, he’ll be proven absolutely right).
Any bets on what Nolan will do? Or will it matter to the box office? Perhaps it’s a bit early to start critiquing the Dark Knight Rises Trailer as if it’s the actual movie itself…but then again, what fun would that be?
