A new project/promotion available through online coding tutorial site Codecademy will let you learn how to code through interactive tutorials once a week throughout 2012. As Slate notes- the ones who turned us on to the site- “learning to code is becoming as important as knowing how to read and write”.
Founders of the Codecademy (pronounced Code Academy) startup Ryan Bubinski and Zach Sims are urging beginner coders to sign up for a new course that provides one lesson a week over the next year as their New Year’s resolution. Each lesson takes about five hours to complete, so you can get each one done spending around an hour a day during the work week.
According the website Codecademy has up for the project, around 149,183 people have signed up for “Code Year”. The lessons appear to be completely free and the rest of Codecademy’s JavaScript courses are as well.
Founder of funding firm Y Combinator– a partner to Codecademy– Paul Graham had this to say on the Code Year’s website:
“If you want to invest two years in something that will help you, you would do better to learn how to hack than get an MBA.”
If you’re interested in signing up for the Code Year project you can do so here by entering your email. You can learn more about Codecademy and their other services through their main website here.
