Fox news had quite possibly the worst false reporting disaster in the company’s history today (and that’s saying a lot), when a hacker group broke into the company’s @foxnewspolitics twitter account and got off six tweets, which concluded with:
We wish @joebiden the best of luck as our new President of the United States. In such a time of madness, there’s light at the end of tunnel
Fox news made this statement to explain the events:
Hackers sent out several malicious and false Tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports are incorrect, of course, and the president is spending the July 4 holiday with his family. The hacking is being investigated, and FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false Tweets may have created.
Jeff Misenti, vice-president and general manager of Fox News Digital also said:
We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorised access into FoxNews.com accounts.
It goes without saying that President Obama is alive and well, hosting barbecue on the South Lawn for members of the military and their respective family members.
It also goes without saying, that these guys are already assumed to be the main suspects for the hacking incident…this might be one of those “incidents” where hacking groups don’t take credit.
