Inspired by eight user submitted photos, Academy Award winner Ron Howard is debuting his new film today on YouTube entitled When You Find Me.
‘When you find me’ tells the story of two sisters whose childhood bond is tested by a tragedy they are too young to understand. Alternating between past and present, ‘when you find me’ is an emotional fable of two people coping with loss in very different ways, and what it takes to find peace within yourself and reconciliation with the ones you love.
Howard selected eight photos, each representing a different aspect of the film such as a “Setting”, “Character” or “Goal”, from 100,000 photos submitted to a contest held by Canon for the project.
He also used Canon gear to shoot the film. You’ll be able to watch the short film directed by Bryce Dallas Howard starting at 12:00 p.m. EST on Friday, December 16, and it will remain available for streaming until the 19th.
As for the winning photos, they can be seen in the image below, and the trailer for the film is after the fold.
‘When you find me’ will hit the film festivals in 2012, and while it’s only a 15-minute short film as part of this project thought up by Canon, it marks the beginning of original content coming to YouTube in the near future. Reports surfaced in October claiming that Google was in the process of investing around $100 million into original content that would debut on YouTube, hinting this could be the first sign of YouTube making itself a major player in the movie industry.
