Thanks to the good folks over at ReelSeo, we were tipped off on a great flick to put you in the Halloween spirit. “The Killing Joke” is a fifteen minute short that cinematically looks like it belongs in a movie theater (especially considering that Paranormal Activity is the “#1 Movie in America).
Using classic elements of suspense and working within a 60′s/70′s aesthetic that fits somewhere in between Rosemary’s Baby and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, ‘The Killing Joke’ is an action packed film that pays homage to some of the horror movies from that era.
The piece was shot during four intense days of filming in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires. The micro budget production was shot using just two 7d canon cameras. The composition and CGI effects for ‘The Killing Joke’ required months of ‘invisible’ digital retouching to create the panoramic, yet claustrophobic atmosphere that pervades throughout the movie.
“The Killing Joke” will probably be appreciated more by audiences that enjoy quality filmmaking than the usual “Saw Horror flick” or proverbial YouTube video. The film takes it takes it time but still provides enough tension to make the 15 minutes a worthy investment.

With scary clowns, jack in the boxes, SMG’s and a hot Argentinean woman running around, what’s not to like? Add in a dynamite score and cinematography that rivals some of today’s best features and “The Killing Joke” is a rare treat for people who make YouTube their second home on the internet, and for aspiring filmmakers trying to further their craft.
