Like many of the major titles in the Grand Theft Auto World, GTA V is in development in Scotland at Rockstar North. An employee there, Alex O’Dwyer might have just leaked the release date for the franchise’s next major release, according to his CV and LinkedIn page.

O’Dwyer, a character animator at Rockstar North, shows GTA V clearly with a release date of October 2012, as you can see in the image below grabbed by Joystiq. At this point the CV has been taken offline and Alex’s LinkedIn profile edited to remove any information on the game. Keep Reading

“How I Play Skyrim”: Murder, Mayhem, and Excessive Inventories

YouTuber TimTimFed, aka Michael Shanks (not that Michael Shanks) plays Skyrim the way a lot of us probably do — on some mixture of manic and obsessive compulsive disorder — in this case, running around, sword in hand and impaling your enemies, only to interrupt the battle every time you defeat a foe so you can add their weapon/clothes to your armory.

As is the case with many a role playing game, TimTim’s avatar soon finds himself overloaded with sh*t to carry. Considering the video runs only about a minute or so, it packs a lot into a relatively brisk 60 seconds. Keep Reading

Toonami to Return From The Dead? Don’t Tease Us, Adult Swim

When the plug was pulled on Toonami a couple years ago, there was an outpour of rage from loyal fans, all demanding that it immediately be resurrected. A few years and a good deal of begrudged anime fans later, Adult Swim was suddenly running ads encouraging lovelorn Toonami fans (presumably as part of a April fools‘ joke), to Tweet their pissed off-edness. Which many did.

So for longtime fans, all  hoping for the triumphant return of their beloved series, might there be a glimmer of hope? Keep Reading

You may very well now Nick Hagman for his incredible skills on a dance pad. He has beaten everything from Mega Man 2 to Ninja Gaiden using only a Dance Dance Revolution pad as his peripheral. Nick has taken a break from the deadly dance moves, switching gears slightly, to re-create the world of Castlevania in Minecraft.

Hagman has spent quite some time building “Craftlevania”, allowing players to explore Castlevania completely in pseudo-3D. Using no mods, placing every block by hand, Hagman put over 100 hours over the course of 37 days building the game.

Rapper Surgeon General Makes Nerdcore Hardcore

Fishing around for nerdcore on the ‘net can be a seriously time-wasting experience.

Or, it can result in stumbling upon guys like Surgeon General, who seems to have brought a new edge to the genre. The General is less keen on tongue-in-cheek, nerd-friendly topics (aside from video games in general, we mean) then he is injecting a bit of the gangsta side to what he says — which in this case, is an unabashed love of all things Mortal Kombat: Keep Reading

The cold war may be over and the USSR may have fallen (as of over 20 years ago now) but they still haven’t stopped doing batsh*t crazy stuff.

Like this: the development of a microwave-emitting gun that has the ability to “scramble your brain” and potentially control our minds like zombies. Via Geekologie comes news that Russia is in the midst of developing such a monstrosity, endorsed by newly-elected amidst massive protest president Vladimir Putin himself: Keep Reading

The iBrain Can…Read Your Mind?

Saturday, 7th April 2012
Posted in Blog Archive

Is the iBrain just another product you will overpay for because someone slapped an “i” in front of it? The “i” marketing fad may have consumers wanting one before they even know what it is. Turns out, it could be useful for a lot of people, including Stephen Hawking.

70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders, and those who can’t afford a formal sleep study (ranging $500-$10,000) have over 20 home sleep devices to choose from. Most designs resemble clunky helmets with numerous wires and electrodes – not one of them as small or promising as the iBrain.

iBrain is a portable neural device comprised of a black headband and single electrode that monitors brain activity. Medical professionals think it may speed the diagnosis of disease, revolutionize the study of sleep, and is a great way to tap into the multi-billion dollar sleep and neuro-diagnostics markets. While fans wait with baited breath for the Akira live-action movie do become unf*cked, they have what may be the next best thing: a guy dressed as Kaneda and driving his ceramic double-roader (?!) across Japan.

Specifically, it’s a guy named Masashi Teshima, who spent 7 years and ¥10 million (US$121,000) building the thing – which looks pretty damn spot-on, from the stickers and decals to the actual proportions of it.

On the Bethesda Blog the developer announced the Skyrim 1.5 update is now available to users in North America on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the update headed for European users “soon”. Bethesda also noted a fix for users experiencing issues when entering water. Keep Reading

While you might be sick of hearing about Michael Bay and all the TMNT sh*t as of late, we can’t get enough of it. At least as long as it’s stuff like Pac Man: The Movie (which is really just a fan film for the actual, as-of-now unrealized feature-length).

Though somebody came up with the Bay reference already, after watching it there’s really no better director it could be compared to.  Or maybe Roland Emmerich, crossed with the media-conscious filmmaking of Paul Verhoeven?

$1.5 Million Worth of Robots Crank Out The Beatles’ “Come Together”

Given that the Hubos — the working name of these 3 robots built by Drexel University research scientists — cost between $350 – 400,000 a piece to build, $1.5 million seems a kind estimate. It is however kinda cool that the scientists were given the robots for what might have been more ‘noble’  robotics experiments, before deciding to program these four to play a Beatles song.

Actually, the University was given 7 of these things, so maybe the other ones are off being programmed with Asimov’s 3 laws or something. Keep Reading

Never would have crossed our minds either….and that’s probably why there’s illustrator DoomCMYK aka Robert Mangaoang, who drew up this L337 piece of work: a nifty hybrid between Link and, of all things, Daft Punk.

The elfin ears (along with the Zelda-style heads themselves) are a nice touch, though the whole friggin’ piece is pretty damn snazzy altogether. Keep Reading

Why Women Shouldn’t Play Video Games (Blame Men?)

Today’s lesson in n00bery comes compliments of some funny folks from over the pond. RO Pictures presents: “Why Women SHOULDN’T Play Video Games.” Spoiler…it’s because men will absolutely drive them nuts with their noobish ways.

Of course the video is tongue in cheek, but how much is the question. Being a “gamer girl” has become so mainstream, thanks to music videos of the likes by Felicia Day, it’s all but synonymous with simply being dubbed a “gamer.”

As the video shows, casual gaming can lead to nervous breakdown that will make your head explode, how many of us haven’t been here before?

EA Voted “Worst Company In America”

It’s been an interesting month for Electronica Arts. After setting the internet on fire by releasing a video game which some fans decried its ending, then obliging by all but re-creating a new one, the news hits the wires that EA was voted the “worst company in america” by over 250,000 voters on the Consumerist.

EA nudged Bank Of America (who reportedly charged users a fee to vote) to win the Worst Company in America crown.

What indelibly pushed voters to crown EA the worst? While we don’t particularly have a dog in this fight, many of our fans will tell you that EA’s snobbery when it comes to DLC and they’re proclivity to bully indie publishers from entering the market make them one of the most hated companies in the gaming market. They’re supposed to be about fun, but so often they come across caring more about profit, instead.

First, the good: audio-wise, it’s great to listen to — even something to marvel at — and at its very best moments, could easily substitute Keep Reading

Maybe this is defining proof that filmmakers will soon be able to produce studio-worthy, special effects-laden films for homemade prices.

Director Olan Rogers has already declared one of his life missions is to make tribute films in honor of Star Trek and Samurai Jack — and from the looks of his Mega Man feature, he should have no trouble completing his trifecta without having to survive the rest of his life on pickles and ketchup packets…
For those of you who loved Mega Man back in the day, seeing the screen capture might conjure flashbacks to the box covers of Mega Man 1 and 2. Keep Reading
