Lil Boosie was sentenced to 8 years today when, according to Vibe, guards found out that both the Louisiana-based rapper and his girlfriend were trying to smuggle drugs into prison. Most ironically of all is how Boosie’s girlfriend is, yes, actually a prison guard at the same jail.
Despite coming from a relatively f*cked up childhood, Boosie seemed on the rise for a while.
His motive and networking skills got him into the rap game back in 2006 when he released Bad Azz, his major album debut.
A success, the album charted # 18 on the Billboards. Only two years later, he’d be busted on drug charges and receive a two-year prison sentence.
After that, a violation of probation brought it up to four. Now, on top of receiving those 4 years, and the other 8, he’s a murder suspect in the death of 35 year-old Terry Boyd — a killing that occurred ‘over turf’, according to the district attorney.
So while Louisiana won’t see Boosie walking around anytime soon, we all could still be hearing his music: he’s stated his rap career will continue, despite facing possible execution.
Boosie’s not the first rapper to make an album behind bars, C-Murder and others have done the same thing, but does anyone think they should at least wait until the Boyd trial is over?
Are taxpayer dollars supposed to go towards this sort of thing while a man is on trial and in prison?
Then again, it’s not just America that enables felons to record music in prison; Norway’s infamous killer Varg Vikernes did the same right before leaving prison and released his new album early this year.
P.S. Apparently they allow cell phone cameras in jail too.
