T’was only a matter of time before one of these nerdcore rappers passed third base with the sex/computer metaphors, and we can now credit Ultraklystron aka Karl Olsen for falling on that grenade.
That’s right, until now the closest we had was ZeaLouS1 telling the ladies that he was willing to ‘pass on that ass’ after getting to a certain level in World of Warcraft.
And yet ironically, it’s what many rappers (or any male, for that matter) would be hesitant to admit, which becomes one of Klystron’s strong suits: his macho posturing is tongue-in-cheek, and in “Tap that Deck”, his rhymes quickly turn into a straightforward confessional detailing the problems of aging.
“I’d tap that deck/play you on kinect/til we gotta sweat/you ain’t seen nothin’ yet/and if ‘m seeming cold/it’s cause I’m gettin’ old/and it’s too hard to keep up my HP.”
It’s this good-humored spirit, along with Olsen’s catchy and minimalist late-80s/early 90s Top 40 hip hop melodies and beats, which make him all the more endearing.
Below you’ll find the video for “Tap”, and you can get a closer look at his mixtape here.
Unfortunately, little else is known on Klystron right now, other than that he’s going to be dropping a free mixtape this November, but we’ve got our eye on him.
