An extremely rare Atari game called Air Raid has been found and is currently up for auction (via Polygon).
The 1982 shoot-em, considered to be one of the rarest games for the Atari 2600, has already received a high bid of almost $18,000 on game auction site GameGavel. This copy of the game still works, check out the video and image gallery below. Developed by Men-A-Vision, Air Raid was the company’s only title and there were very few copies. The last known copy of the game sold for over $30,000 on eBay in 2010.
This particular original cartridge of the game is owned by Harv Bennett who pulled it out of storage with his daughter Alana.

According to Polygon, Bennett said that his daughter discovered the game’s manual when going to take some photos for authentication. Bennett said Albert Yarusso (an AtariAge administrator) and Mike Kennedy (the owner of GameGavel) believe this may be the only known copy of the game manual.
“Yes it is true ! This is the auction for the ONE AND ONLY true CIB Air Raid that has ever been found.”
Bennett told Polygon he received the rare game years ago when he worked at a small drug store that also sold video games. Someone from Men-A-Vision brought him a copy in hopes he would sell it at the store. After deciding the game wasn’t good enough to put in the store Harv tried to return it to the developer but they said he could keep it. Bennett said he decided to give “the store a couple dollars for it, since it was technically given to the store,” then he put it in his Atari cabinet and didn’t touch it.
Mike Kennedy of GameGavel told Polygon, “We occasionally get mega rare items like this listed on GameGavel…We really have a hardcore community of retro gamers so it’s a great place to feature an auction like this.”
The Air Raid cartridge still works and its auction still has 10 days remaining and currently sits at $17,850.00.
