Microsoft is expanding its subsidized Xbox 360 options to include more console models and retail outlets.
Although many were skeptical when the first $99 Xbox hit back in May, it must have been successful for the tech giant to end up choosing to expand the program.
Previously we reported to you about the 4GB Xbox 360 that came available for just $99 but with a hint of caution, being that mathematically the number didn’t really end up saving you any money. If you are interested in the numbers you can can go over the price break down here in our previous story.
The catch was that with the $99 up front users must also commit to a 2 year, $15/month contract on Xbox Live Gold. At that point, when the subsidy was first announced, only select GameStop and Best Buy locations had the $99 package available.

Although many disagree with the pricing structure being that it really doesn’t save much money–if any, the up-front discount certainly allows those of us on a tighter budget to get an Xbox 360 where we may not have been able to before.
Today Microsoft is introducing two new packages on top of the one we already know about. The packages have now expanded to include the 250GB Xbox 360. The bundles now available are the following:
- 4GB console with Kinect for $99
- 250GB console for $99 (with no Kinect included)
- 250GB with Kinect for $149

Microsoft has yet to announce the full, official list of participating retailers at this point, but according to GT the list will indeed be expanding quite a lot. Presumably the subsidized bundles will be made available in all GameStop and Best Buy locations throughout the country. GT says that we can also expect to see both Toys R’ Us and Wal-Mart jump on board and carry the bundles.
