On Friday Naughty Dog revealed a new trailer for the Last of Us and even more importantly we now have the game’s official release date along with some retailer specific pre-order bonuses (via Joystiq). The Last of Us will be hitting store shelves on May 7, 2013.
Over the weekend, along with the new trailer and an official release date, Naughty Dog also officially announced the first Last of Us multiplayer pre order bonuses (below). Earlier this year the company confirmed multiplayer, but that it would not be co-op.
A post by Naughty Dog on the official Playstation blog reads, “Multiplayer, wha? We’re not quite ready to talk about it yet, but stay tuned as we’ll be revealing more details on multiplayer before The Last of Us is released…”
If you haven’t had a chance yet, check out the new trailer below. Naughty Dog said they have been very careful so as to not have any spoilers in any of the pre release material for the game and that the newest trailer focuses on the “tense, emotional narrative the development team has crafted.”
The company has also released the game’s official box art:

Like we mentioned above, we have the title’s first pre order details as well. The first bonus bundle will be available at “Participating retailers” and is called the Sights and Sounds Pack. The bundle will contain the game’s official soundtrack as well as a dynamic PS3 theme featuring the cover art. Players will also get two PSN profile avatars called Winter Joel and Winter Ellie.

Sony has also announced special pre order bonuses at GameStop which will net players “exclusive bonus content” in addition to the Sights and Sounds Pack. The GameStop content, the Survival Pack, is focused around the multiplayer aspect of The Last of Us with bonus multiplayer XP and customizable character items among other things.
Here is the full list of GameStop pre order bonuses you will get in addition to the Sights and Sounds Pack:
GameStop Survival Pack:
Bonus experience points for multiplayer
A multiplayer melee attack booster
Some extra starting in-game cash
Special customizable character items for multiplayer
Two special bonus skins for Joel and Ellie which will be unlocked after your complete the single player campaign

Craig Hunter is a main contributor for the Jace Hall Show and has been an avid gamer for over 15 years. He also freelances for a number of websites and magazines covering mobile products and emerging technologies.

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
