The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V was originally expected to be launching this Spring. Today Rockstar has both announced a delay for the title and its new official release date. Grand Theft Auto V will be releasing on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17 (via GT).
Back in October, Rockstar had said that the game would be coming sometime this Spring but has now pushed the game back “in order to allow additional development time,” according to the official Rockstar press release.
Rockstar talked about the delay and the new official release date in a post on its blog today:
“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time.”
The post goes on to talk about how “GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”
GTA V will bring players back to the city of Los Santos where they will be introduced to the game’s three playable main protagonists. Rockstar says that game is the team’s largest and most ambitious open world game to date.
“To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.” – Rockstar
Rockstar’s Dan Houser had previously said the team decided to bring GTA V to current generation devices because the “mature” hardware will allow the devs to take the game to the “next level.”

That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
