For those of you outside the Nerdcore circle, MC Chris (aka Chris Ward) may be the one who gets the biggest amount of sh*t. Numerous forums and even the rapper’s own Facebook postings have pointed to a curious trend that may really be a bit unwarranted. Here’s why.
As The Wall Street Journal pointed out recently, when Chris Ward’s nephew Murray Goff, was born with cystic fibrosis in 2008, MC Chris took it upon himself to start a donation campaign in order to raise money for cystic fibrosis. When the $200 or so he collected per show wasn’t cutting it, he forced himself to take bigger steps: namely, through his Facebook page.
With nearly 140,000 fans, Chris has turned a simple donation jar at shows into a full-blown enterprise. And with the help of his loyal fanbase, the man has auctioned off everything from GI Joes from his prized collection to back issues of MAD Magazine.
And hey, The Wall Street Journal (of all rags) calls him ‘optimistic.’ Is this a sunnier, shinier side of the MC that just emerged after a few years of exaggerated trash-talking ()? Or was he only being hated on for the sake of being hated on?
Ward’s been known to stir up sh*t in the past, but it’s usually just something that gets blown out of proportion. Taking a closer look at all the slander, it looks dubious and sometimes downright foolish.
MC Chris says that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) “doesn’t know what to do with me.” CFF exeutive Molly Boyum said that a check from the rapper showed up “very low-key…it just had the name ‘MC Chris’ on it.”
Ward has even doubled his efforts yet again: he’s working on an animated cartoon tentatively titled “The MC Chris Cartoon”, which he’s shopping to different networks. It “will follow the adventures of an animated Mr. Ward, with time travel, robots, aliens and dinosaurs.”
So, a bit of an argument to the pre-conceived notion that Chris is a cantankerous, insufferable a-hole. Actions do usually speak louder than words, after all…

Logan Huffman wants to know who is posting comments about him online and asks Jace for help. Meanwhile Joe Flanigan is caught again flirting in the V costume. Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
