Russian archaeologists have stumbled upon the remains of yet another woolly mammoth carcass in woolly mammoth carcass-rich Siberia.
The difference between this one and the many others is that this one consists of hair, tissue and bone marrow remnants — enough to offer some tantalizing possibilities at genetic reconstruction.
Excavators from Russia’s North-Eastern Federal University found the carcass nearly 400 meters underground while digging in an area known for its wealth of Ice Age-era remains. Korean scientists accompanied the Russians, purely to determine what potential the remains offered for cloning. Turns out a lot — depending largely on the amount of DNA, which would offer the opportunity (although scientists are now saying that it will take months to determine exactly if it’s possible).
Despite all the uncertainty, scientists claim they’ve found more DNA in the hair of this mammoth’s skeletal remains than any other. As mentioned, Siberia is packed with woolly mammoth carcasses: earlier this month they found the carcass of a teenage one, which comprises the most well-preserved skeleton of the animals yet found. Unfortunately, according to MSNBC, the DNA was damaged. Leave it to crazy Russia – these are the guys who gave us Illya Ivanovich Ivanov, the man who crossed human body parts with monkeys. Could we be that much closer to a Jurassic Park (or Paleolithic Park), and a bunch of ancient specimens running around?

Jace heads to the set of Law and Order: SVU to catch up with Ice – T and Coco and the Starcraft II team gets “rushed” by World of Warcraft Lead Designer, Jeff Kaplan.
Jace has decided to take advantage of his co-hosting duties at the Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire celebration, by showing his new music video to the thousands of EverQuest players in attendance, much to the dismay of the crowd. That didn’t stop one enthusiastic guest from doing something radical.
