As long as the feature is enabled on your iPhone, you can install the app on another iPhone or iPad (or access it through the iCloud web app) to locate your device and remotely wipe it if necessary.
Well, the feature has come in handy in a few sticky situations before, but this story from the LA Times blog goes to show how important it is to enable tracking solutions for our devices.
The victim was apparently robbed at gunpoint for her purse, which just so happened to contain an iPhone with Find My iPhone enabled. LAPD officers used a local citizen’s computer to track down the device. LA Times reports: Keep Reading

Say what you want about how much better games on Vita will be compared to Apple’s iOS devices, but come this holiday season, the majority of kids will be asking for an iPad, iPod touch, or iPhone.
In fact, according to recent research conducted by Nielson, those three devices beat out all of Nintendo’s, Sony’s, and Microsoft’s gaming platforms as the three most desired consumer electronic products.
While the numbers in the graphic below, which shows the products Keep Reading

Well, according to Adobe at least, Apple is the one to blame for the recent death of Flash. Adobe recently made the passing of flash official, all while touting HTML5 as the way of the future. This all comes as quite a surprise for anyone familiar with Adobe’s persistence in keeping the platform alive despite Apple’s unwillingness to include it in their iOS platforms.
Steve Jobs made Apple’s stance on not including Flash in iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone clear in an open letter entitled “Thoughts on Flash”. He also stated in the past that Adobe Keep Reading

What’s the advantage of having a PlayStation Certified phone like the Xperia Play? Being able to access Sony’s PlayStation Suite full of old PS games of course (and a ton of other content in the future hopefully).
But if that’s not be enough of an incentive for you to pick up a Sony smartphone at the moment, Sony has opened up the PS Suite SDK to developers in a closed-beta, allowing them to build games that run cross-platform on both PS Certified phone/tablets running Android, and non-Android devices like the PS Vita.
Sony Ericsson also just announced the Xperia Acro and Xperia Arc are now officially PlayStation Certified on the Japan market. These Keep Reading

With all of the HSPA+ devices being branded “4G” these days you’d think AT&T already had LTE-capable devices. The truth is they are just gearing up to launch the first two smartphones that take advantage of their 4G LTE network with the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and HTC Vivid. Both devices will be available starting November 6th.
The HTC Vivid has a 960 x 540 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 8MP camera (f2.2 28mm wide angle lens), 1080p HD video recording (60 frames per second), and 16GB of on-board storage expandable to 32GB via microSD. This device will Keep Reading

It had already been reported by the Wall Street Journal earlier in October that Sony was looking to purchase Ericsson’s 50% share of their joint-venture phone business known as Sony Ericsson. Today, Sony made things official by issuing a press release outlining the $1.5 billion (1.05 billion euros) deal that will presumably see Sony dropping “Ericsson” from branding on future smartphones.
Sony will also gain ownership of “five essential patent families” related to smartphones. Their plan is to better integrate Keep Reading

Epson’s new ‘MegaPlex’ series of portable projectors includes two models, the Megaplex MG-850HD and the MG-50. Both devices are capable of projecting presentations, photos, and movies up to 12x bigger than a 40-inch screen. The best part is they were designed specifically to connect to and display content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Keep Reading

An update was finally pushed out today for the Android Netflix app, bringing with it support for ALL Android 2.2 and 2.3 devices.
Prior to today’s update the app was only compatible with a handful of handsets, annoying quite a few Android users (to say the least). The good news is the update brings support to approximately 80% of Android devices (according to the Android developers resources), so chances are your device is covered.
Up until now there were a few workarounds to getting Netflix up and running on unsupported devices, but an official update is better late than never. However, it seems there is still no decent tablet support, apart from a few including the Lenovo ThinkPad and IdeadPad K1. A great example of Android’s fragmentation at work. Either way, the update is certainly welcomed. Keep Reading

Rockstar games sent out a press release earlier today announcing that Max Payne 3 will be launching sometime in 2012. However, many passed over the last paragraph which announces the company is also working on an HD remake of the original title for mobile devices (presumably Android and iOS).

Google’s next major release of Android, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich, was rumored to make an appearance on select devices sometime this year. These rumors stem from reports that Verizon would be launching the Droid Prime in October, which is expected to be the first publicly available smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich. However, in an interview from the Dream Conference, Google’s Eric Schmidt seems to now confirm Keep Reading

GameStop not too long ago began accepting iPhones, iPads, and iPods as trade-ins in exchange for store credit. However, our friends over at 9to5Mac have learned that dealers at a Las Vegas trade show were told that the company will soon begin carrying and selling the devices new as well. The announcement to dealers could possibly signal preparation for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 (iPhone 4S?). Keep Reading

It’s no secret that leaked case designs for upcoming Apple mobile devices have often lead to discoveries about design changes for upcoming future products.
Whether its the dimensions of the case, or repositioned openings for volume rockers and other hardware elements, it’s been proven that case manufacturers have been able to get their hands on the specs for upcoming devices before most others.
The latest set of images (courtesy of Italian Mac site Macitynet.it) shows what the next-gen iPhone may look like based on a comparison of a rumoured iPhone 5 case and a current iPhone 4.
As you can from the images, the design appears to be quite a departure from the currently shipping iDevices… returning to familiar curved back (much like the 3G), and widening the dimensions to make room for what we hope is a 4+ inch display. More images after the break and much more at the source.

I don’t care that this is technically a bad thing, I just like the possibility that if I’m ever on the run, I’ll be able to run to a car dealership, quickly pull out my smartphone and hack my way into a brand new car, all the while being chased by Russian spies, dodging bullets, and screaming “GET PAST THE FIREWALL!” over my intercom.
