We had the privilege of talking comics with legendary Hulk writer, Peter David at Comic-con 2012, this year. But last week on December 30th, Peter self-reported that he had suffered a stroke. Needless to say it was a scary incident, but as his wife updates via Peter’s blog, a week later, Peter is making progress towards an initial recovery.

While this news is encouraging, the ultimate struggle back to recovery will be very long and obviously expensive. Peter reportedly has health insurance, but situations like this often go beyond most coverage plans. Even as we all watch Christian Bale and grieving families in the wake of last week’s shooting, it’s natural to feel powerless. There’s a bunch of different ways to help, however, if you’re so inclined — among them the Aurora Relief Fund, which has collected over $2 million so far.

We’re not talking just basic medical care but years of post-op/physical therapy a lot of the shooting victims will likely need afterwards.

Even if somebody can just spread the word, the more people who hear about such foundations, the more likely they are to get the money they need. Here’s a few of the organizations taking donations:

It’s always seemed as though MC Chris is amongst the most prolific of the nerdcore rappers.

Whether it’s a single or an entire album, just seems like the guy’s a dynamo with about 80 projects going on at once. Early last fall he helped raise awareness for, and donate a fair amount of money to, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Google announced that they were celebrating the holidays by making a $40 million donation towards improving girls’ education, empowering technological innovation, and fighting human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

It’s no secret that the United States is falling behind in education and innovative new technology, but the donation by Google shines a light on the pandemic issue of global slavery.

Despite the passing of the 13th amendment, which prohibited involuntary solitude and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Equal Human Rights, the world has more slaves now than in any time in human history — 27 million. Google’s donation will help free over 12,000 people from modern-day slavery and prevent millions more from being victimized, all through support through organizations like:
