Certain people will never have any interest in video games, no matter how popular or cool those games are. Conan O’Brien is one of those people; perhaps that’s why he makes it his mission to play them (he’s always been a bit of the self-loathing type) for the popular segment known as “Clueless Gamer with Conan O’Brien.”

His latest choice is none other than Skyrim, which is already perfect because it’s nearly a year old, confirming the talk show host’s terminally-deficient hip ratio. Watch him design a Khajiit and name him ‘Mr. Buttons”, as well as admire the background scenery (“They should really put in a ski slope there”). Other beloved Conan-isms emerge: Continue reading “DAILY GAMING: Conan Plays Skyrim, Slaughters Indiscriminately” »

Influenced by the famous Where the Hell is Matt? videos, this little mash-up comes courtesy of Projectrooster, aka the mind who brought you all those insane Minecraft videos (com of which were just f*cking with you, of course). With a nice little dance remix of Jeremy Soule’s Elder Scrolls that comes from Victor Niglio, the video consists of really little else other than Dovahkiin throwing a rave party for one, all over Skyrim.

From Hrothgar and Bleak Falls Barrow to Guardian Stones and Swindler’s Den (and back again), it may be the only time you ever see a warrior of his stature do a toprock. Continue reading “Where the Hell is Dovahkiin? Skyrim Gets A Dance Remix (and Some B-Boy Moves?)” »

After having been rumoured for quite a while now, The Elder Scrolls Online has been officially announced today by Bethesda. The highly anticipated title will grace the cover of the June issue of Game Informer magazine. Developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, the title will mark the first time the series will delve into the online multiplayer space.

The game is said to bring together what we all know of the Elder Scrolls franchise, huge expanses of territory and deep enriching game worlds, with all of the usual MMO role playing game features like the sense of scale and social integration. On the Game Informer cover we can clearly see a map of sorts with regions labeled everything from Skyrim, Morrowind and Hammerfell to Cyrodiil, High Rock and Summerset Isle, among others.

I’m still not really sure who Harry Partridge is, but he seems pretty f*cking genius.

From the same guy that gave you such clever animated shorts as Song of Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls: Adventures of the Dovahkids — that totally 1980s animated take on the much-beloved video game — comes an animated short featuring ample amounts of blood, blades, and what look like Morgana-sized triple-F t*ts.  As for the actual plot of StarBarians: Episode 1, it’s relatively straightforward: two Thundercat-ish heroes of Continue reading “StarBarians, F*ck Yeah: Harry Partridge Debuts Original Short Animated Series” »

YouTuber TimTimFed, aka Michael Shanks (not that Michael Shanks) plays Skyrim the way a lot of us probably do — on some mixture of manic and obsessive compulsive disorder — in this case, running around, sword in hand and impaling your enemies, only to interrupt the battle every time you defeat a foe so you can add their weapon/clothes to your armory.

As is the case with many a role playing game, TimTim’s avatar soon finds himself overloaded with sh*t to carry. Considering the video runs only about a minute or so, it packs a lot into a relatively brisk 60 seconds. Continue reading ““How I Play Skyrim”: Murder, Mayhem, and Excessive Inventories” »

A few weeks ago Bethesda rolled out update 1.5 to Elder Scrolls: Skyrim bringing with it new kill cams and animations for kill moves, spells, and projectile weapons. At the time the patch, which also included a long list of bug fixes and enhancements, was only available to PC users, luckily the developer today has started pushing most of the best features out to console users as well.

On the Bethesda Blog the developer announced the Skyrim 1.5 update is now available to users in North America on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the update headed for European users “soon”. Bethesda also noted a fix for users experiencing issues when entering water. Continue reading “Skyrim 1.5 Update Brings New Kill Cams To Consoles” »

Never thought of mixing a beloved RPG with a beloved reality series, but leave it to College Humor to deftly cross-pollinate the world of Skyrim with A&E’s reality show Hoarders. This particular episode follows the tale of Glarthir, a Bosmer thief and Skyrim warrior who hoards every single item he picks up or purchases — from swords to axes to ores and ignots, all of it sits in his home like a Middle Earth Public Storage…until, that its, a warrior Nord named Yggdrasil is sent to help him.

Meanwhile, Lydia, his wench, is threatening to leave him if he doesn’t do something about the stack of crap in his hut.

How exactly does he acquire all this crap? Continue reading “The World of Skyrim as Seen Through Reality Television” »

We have learned that Bethesda is set to announce Elder Scrolls Online in May 2012. The game will be taking us back to the world of Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind in a brand new way.

An anonymous industry source revealed to Toms Guide that Bethesda is teaming up with ZeniMax to create an MMO set in the Elder Scrolls mythos.

Although the collaboration between Bethesda and ZeniMax is no secret with all of the job postings on ZeniMax’s site for the last little while, it was still unknown Continue reading “Bethesda Working On Elder Scrolls MMO Coming In May” »

There has been a ton of Skryrim related news today from new mods without breaking the game’s intended experience, to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall being made available free. Finally we have another classic glitch tribute from Wren the Reaper… this time for “Lydia, No!” bug. Read on for all the details.

The world of Skyrim seems to be celebrated just as much for its deep and immersive gameplay as it is for its glitches. Wren the Reaper, known for being an Adobe After Effects master and as the brains behind“This is why FALCON PUNCH is not a toy”, has brought one of Skyrim’s most notorious glitches to life. The video, Lydia NO! – A real life Skyrim Adventure, deals with the sometimes questionable AI sidekick we have all come to know and love. Loads of Skyrim fans have been posting their own unique tributes to the world of the Elder Scrolls as of late, to a smattering of mixed results. Some of these odes have been a creative blend of low-to-no-budget, and we don’t know why we’re so happy this one puts itself gleefully in the latter category.

This latest comes from a dude in a recliner, supposedly, yes, forged by the gods themselves. YouTuber daavidrl22‘s homemade video –  of which is pretty much just him wearing the traditional after-work gaming garb of comforter and little else is a remarkably dedicated tribute to his favorite game. Maybe this guy’s copy of the game must come with something in it that I’m not getting, Adderall or something. Continue reading “Skyrim Chair Spasm: Epic Win or Just Utter Fail?” »

I used to think girl gamers were just a myth, like the Sasquatch, or Donald Trump. So if not Skyrim, then there’s some other game that inspires female fan fervor that can put even this guy’s to shame, and to the point when you’ll be standing there with only Mr. Hand and a box of tissues.

But if you’ve ever had a girl leave you for Skyrim specifically, then do we have the song for you.

Yes, maybe more than you care to admit. Featuring Schaffer the Darklord, this is nerdcore mixed in with a bit of old-fashioned blues Continue reading “Schaffer the Darklord Laments Girl Ditching Him (Because of Skyrim)” »

skyrim arrow memeDon’t know exactly what possessed rising dub step star Ramses B to make a grimy dubstep song out of spare Skyrim parts.

Some are calling it a good-natured tribute to what many are calling the greatest game in a long timeOthers are saying he was just really high.

Suffice to say, what an epic-sounding track. Picture mighty dragons and their horn-helmeted slayers, only to be interrupted by a familiar soundbite. Continue reading “New Skyrim Dubstep Song Takes an Arrow In The Knee” »

skyrim kid holding bookWriter and animator Harry Partridge could be called awesome for re-inventing Alan Moore’s Watchmen as a cartoon, but this Skyrim video may trump it all.

Re-inventing modern day pop culture phenom into 80s cartoons a la Dungeons and Dragons and The Gummi Bears, his latest work — a faux introduction for an animated show called The Elder Scrolls: Adventures with the Dovahkids isn’t just the usual crude animation you’d see in most YouTube inspired videos, it’s arguably on par with many modern-day cartoons.

If you dig this in the least, you may also want to watch (cringe) at his Song of Skyrim tribute to the game as well. Continue reading “What Would Skyrim Look Like As an 80′s Cartoon?” »

Admit it: you love the constant stream of Skyrim-related news we keep shoving down your throat. All right, you’re over it, as your puke-covered controller evidences.

But swallow one last tidbit of ES-related goodness (at least for today): the beautiful world of The Escapist’s ‘Zero PUNCTUATION‘, a rapid fire-assault on grammar from a Brit named “Yahtzee” who spits out clever witticisms faster than a Kalishnikov rifle.

All this comes courtesy of Ben Croshaw, who cuts apart pop culture phenom like video games with the expertise of a skilled surgeon. On the dissection table this week is the latest in The Elder Scrolls series, a game he evidently picked up just so “no one can yell at me for not playing a f*cking multiplayer for once.” With an animation style somewhat reminiscent of Monty Python, the visuals are a perfect compliment to Croshaw’s 650 WPM delivery. With Bethesda’s enormous and much anticipated success of Skyrim, shipping 7 million copies as of last week, it was only inevitable that the internet would spend its spare time (not playing the game) developing memes inspired by Dovahkiin and company.

Some of them technically aren’t memes, but do a fantastic job of taking an intelligent and funny spin on the game, nevertheless. We’ve scoured digg, reddit, Todd Roy’s personal computer, and anywhere else where productivity generally goes to die and included them in the gallery below, comprising our Favorite Skyrim Memes and photos on the net. skyrim rap music videoWe suppose it was only a matter of time, really…but here it is, courtesy of Elder Scrolls enthusiast Dan Bull, who took the main themes of everyone’s favorite dragon-slaying RPG and made it into a pretty cool rap.

With a British accent that could rival Michael Caine’s, Bull highlights all the things that make Skyrim such a beloved part of the series (though the graphics and cinema sequences could be reason enough):

And yet, you do anyway…

Bethesda software’s legal team has fired a cease-and-desist letter overseas to Mojang, the studio owned by Marcus “Notch” Persson, best known as the brains and brawn behind the mega-popular Minecraft. The letter in question is over the name of Mojang’s upcoming game Scrolls, a card-battle game with fantasy characters. Bethesda apparently feels that the title “Scrolls” is an infringement on their popular “The Elder Scrolls” games, and would cause confusion.
