Buzz is starting to build around the new XBOX 720…and by buzz I mean the team has already created a Facebook page and there’s a mock-up of what the logo could look like.

But now this news from IGN demonstrates the 720 will most likely be equipped to battle future competition in the cloud gaming market, with OnLive and other competitors expected to enter the fold.

Xbox Live began cloud saves back in June, what is one of their first iterations into the future of cloud storage. But it’s widely believed a complete overhaul into cloud Continue reading “Analysts Expect “XBOX 720″ Will Be a Cloud-Hybrid” »

Comikaze swept through LA last weekend for its inaugural debut. Dubbed the “Comic-con of LA” the expo showed off some of the latest artwork, music, and exclusives in the gaming/geek world for all those in attendance.

The Jace Hall Show was there in all of our glory, witnessing first hand what was really important at the convention…

Girls in costume.

It was a tough task, albeit a rewarding one, but after sifting through roughly 200 photos and 2 days of meeting and greeting some of Comikaze’s finest, here are some of the hottest female cosplayers Comikaze had to offer.

steve jobs apple video gamesIn anticipation of the London Games Conference kicking off November 10th, Intent Media conducted a survey (via MCV) that asked more than 1,000 industry executives which products and people have had the biggest impact on video games. With results that are likely to anger and puzzle the core gaming community, the study has found Apple and Steve Jobs as the most influential.

Some of the other names that topped the votes are a little less surprising. Jobs was able to beat out gaming industry heavyweights Gabe Newell, co-founder and managing director of Valve, and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. He even topped Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, and inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee. 46% of participants puts Jobs in their top five Continue reading “Steve Jobs and Apple Voted to Have “Biggest Impact in Shaping The Video Game Industry”” »

PS VITA BATTERY LIFE

The reports are coming in on Sony’s PS Vita and the majority seem to be focusing on battery life. While this is probably because everything else hardware-wise seems to be be pretty flawless, we know poor battery life can make or break a dedicated gaming handheld.  Continue reading “Does the PS Vita’s battery life suck?” »

We already know that Gamestop has plans to begin selling new iPhones, iPads, and iPods, now we’ve learned (via an interview with Games Industry) that the company also has a gaming-centric Android tablet in the works.

While there aren’t many details revealed as of yet, Gamestop’s Tony Bartel claims the tablet is already being tested and will sport a selection of pre-installed games. No word on a manufacturer, but from Bartel’s wording in the interview, it seems Continue reading “Gamestop branded Android gaming tablet coming soon” »

GameStop not too long ago began accepting iPhones, iPads, and iPods as trade-ins in exchange for store credit. However, our friends over at 9to5Mac have learned that dealers at a Las Vegas trade show were told that the company will soon begin carrying and selling the devices new as well. The announcement to dealers could possibly signal preparation for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 (iPhone 4S?). Continue reading “GameStop to sell iPhone, iPad and iPod touch?” »

“If you walk around Detroit, you’ll find this person.”

This was the description of the user submitted video in the clip above.

It has been some time since I have visited the fine city of Detroit, so long that it now has a new baseball stadium and has since handed its most valuable companies over to the government. But I do not recall the majority, or even a minority of the many people I encountered, being similar to the character “Latisha” depicted in the newly released video game, Deus X: Human Revolution.

Latisha is digging around in the trash and dropping dayyummms like it’s going out of style. The event in the video game was seemingly overlooked by only the game’s developers, but many of the fans who have played the game, or have seen the above clip, are up in arms about it Continue reading “Is this Video Game Portraying Racist Stereotypes? I’ve got a bad feeling about this…

You know what it’s like when WoW comes up right after patch day? How everyone’s rushing to get back into the servers and that can cause said servers to crash? (Or when you get too many players in one place ’cause you’re a youtube celebrity?)

Well EA will apparently have none of that shit for its upcoming mega-MMO The Old Republic, and has announced it will take precautionary efforts to prevent player-caused crashes from happening right off the bat. By limiting copies of the game available for purchase on Day One. Continue reading “EA to LIMIT Sales of “The Old Republic” to prevent Server Crashes” »

Despite the coming of the Wii U, Nintendo has announced a new generation of the Wii console: Lacking any catchy codename, the new version of the Wii is slated to be released in the UK this winter to replace the current versions of the Nintendo Wii on shelves.

Here’s the rub though–it won’t be backwards compatible with ANYTHING Gamecube: no games, no controllers, no accessories, nothing. So forget all those Mario Kart Double Dash marathons and Smash Bros. Melee parties you were planning on having–(er, wait, you probably still own a Gamecube or Wii if you’ve got those…) But it does mean future generations of Wii owners won’t get to play some of the classic games in the Gamecube’s library.

Oh wait: Kotaku’s reporting that this version of Wii isn’t coming to America. So…this just for UK gamers then? Oh. Sorry guys, no Gamecube games for you.

extra credits escapist

‘Extra Credits’ is dubbed as being one of the smartest gaming shows on the internet, and was created simply because “Video Games Matter.”

Despite reports to the contrary from people that are more familiar with political rhetoric than actual statistics behind video games not being relevant, video games do matter.

The Escapist has been the exclusive home for Extra Credits with hosts James Portnow, Daniel Floyd and Allison Theus taking a deeper look at video games; how they are made, what they mean Continue reading “‘Extra Credits’ Attempts to Escape from ‘The Escapist’, Lawyers Begin Shuffling Papers” »

And yet, you do anyway…

Bethesda software’s legal team has fired a cease-and-desist letter overseas to Mojang, the studio owned by Marcus “Notch” Persson, best known as the brains and brawn behind the mega-popular Minecraft. The letter in question is over the name of Mojang’s upcoming game Scrolls, a card-battle game with fantasy characters. Bethesda apparently feels that the title “Scrolls” is an infringement on their popular “The Elder Scrolls” games, and would cause confusion. Oh don’t look at me like that. It wouldn’t mean the death of  Nathan Drake, Master Chief, or Mario—it would just mean you could play all your games on a singular console.

Todd Howard, the director of Bethesda’s upcoming The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim made comments today in response to a question about the one thing he’d like to see happen in the gaming business. He replied “I’d like there to be only one platform. It’s a lot of work to make the games look good on every platform you’re on.” Continue reading “Yes, but which one?! Confused? So were we–until we watched this video.

I really, really wish tragic things would stop happening over the weekend, I’d like to devote this hashtag to happier causes.

Sadly, I don’t get that luxury. On Saturday the internet went into a collective firestorm over the death of “Xbox Addict” Chris Staniforth, a british twenty year old who suffered what’s known as deep vein thrombosis–a blood clot which can quickly cut off blood flow and block the lungs. DVT usually strikes down victims of long plane flights, who can sit for upwards of 12 hours without any movement. Chris would sit for up to twenty hours playing Xbox, a fact the media has been quick to pick up on. Continue reading “#Thoughtsongaming: Gaming, Obesity, and our Good Health” »
