If you haven’t heard by now, Apple finally made things official for the next-generation iPad this morning by sending out invites to the media for a press event slated for next Wednesday, March 7 (via The Loop).

According to the often reliable Asian trade publication DigiTimes, who relays information from various sources within the asian supply chain, Apple is prepping two new iPads for 2012. This probably isn’t reason to hold off from buying an iPad 2 as the most interesting upgrade will be coming in the later half of next year, but it does back up previous rumors of a new iPad in the 7-inch category…
The report says Apple is “likely to launch” a 7.85-inch iPad before the begininning of Q4 2012. In addition to that yet to be unveiled device, they also say a “new iPad” (fingers crossed for a full fledged iPad 3 upgrade) sometime towards the end of Q1. That puts us in a March timeframe for the iPad 3, which would lineup with previous releases and current rumors from other sources.
When it comes to the 7.85-inch model, which we’ve also heard various rumors about in the past, DigiTimes’ sources say Apple is particularly looking at taking on Amazon’s Kindle Fire and similar devices that might be stealing potential new iPad customers: Continue reading “New iPads: Apple to launch 7.85-inch iPad and iPad 3 in 2012” »

A report from the Taiwan Economic Times released today suggests Apple’s currently unannounced next-gen iPad will sport a “thinner and lighter” battery pack design. Unfortunately, the report also suggests we won’t be seeing an iPad 3 anytime this year (surprised?). Continue reading “iPad 3 to sport “thinner and lighter” battery design” »
