For fans looking for one of the most massive MMOFPS in gaming history — the wait is over.
Sony Online Entertainment announced today that the award winning shooter is now available in North America and Europe.
PlanetSide 2 takes all the massive multiplayer battles and enourmous landscapes from the original PlanetSide and combines them with the new SOE proprietary MMO engine ForgeLight, allowing players to participate in all the fast-paced action of conventional First Person Shooters inside a massive world with thousands of other people.

Says PlanetSide 2 Creative Director Matt Higby:
“We set out to create a massive, unprecedented game, and we succeeded. PlanetSide 2 will break records for its size and combat…Now, it’s the players’ turn to make history. The war stories of brutal combat, acts of valor, casualties and victories from beta testing have been epic. But, the slate is clean, and the game has launched. It’s time to create legends.”
Part of PlanetSide 2′s reward system allows players to earn battle experience by increasing certifications and unlock access to new roles and customization options. It’s part of an overall experience that Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley says is unlike anything gamers have ever seen:
“PlanetSide 2 sets the new standard for shooters…With thousands of players fighting simultaneously across several beautiful, massive continents, the size and intensity of PlanetSide 2 has no equal. You’ve never played anything like it.”

In addition to being one of the most massive multiplayer shooters in gaming history, PlanetSide 2 is also the first game to integrate live broadcasting functionality through the streaming site Twitch. Gamers can now stream gameplay directly to the twitch platform with a single click.
PlanetSide 2 is now available as a free to play game, with an enhanced membership option at $9.99/month for players looking for priority log-in status, cash bonuses, scalable gains for resources and passive cert points.
To begin playing, download PlanetSide 2 from Steam here.
And the trailer that DIDN’T make the cut…

With playable demos already heating up Xbox Live and PSN, a few pre-release copies of Mass Effect 3, set for release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6, have been launched into space. These copies will be landing in the hands of a few lucky recipients who will get to play the game before it officially hits stores.
USAToday reports publisher EA has launched copies attached to weather balloons over San Francisco, Las Vegas, New York, Paris, and London. You won’t have to aimlessly go looking for a copy that might land near you, as EA will allow you to track the game’s onboard GPS tracker on masseffect.com. Of course, it will be first come first service when the copies ultimately land safely back on terra firma. With CES 2012 set to kick off next week on January 10, the big talk of this year’s show is smart TVs, mostly due to Apple’s expected entrance into the HDTV market. Due to this, much of the media is picking up the story that 3D won’t be as big of a focus at the show as it was last year.
According to CNET, at least one TV vendor plans to grab some attention with its latest 3D technology– Toshiba is introducing a glasses-free 3D TV and plan to be first to the U.S. market in the first quarter of 2012. Continue reading “Toshiba To Launch First Glasses-Free 3D TV in U.S. in Q1 2012” »

Google’s flagship Android experience has already landed in the UK, and now this month the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be making its way stateside. However, there are still more than a few unanswered questions about what will almost certainly be the most sought after smartphone of the holidays, so we wanted to take some time to clear up a few of the rumors.
First of all, we already know (as Google has confirmed) that the device will be landing on Verizon. No matter what you read on any number of Android centric blogs, no one has a solid release date. The only thing we know for sure is it’s coming this month, and we know Toronto is getting the device a day before the expected December 8th Canadian launch with a special one day event at the Bay and Dundas BestBuy location. That will be your first chance to get your hands on the device in North America. Continue reading “Everything You Need to Know About The U.S. Galaxy Nexus Launch” »

If you’re like me, you probably feel a sense of urgency to purchase a game the first week, or even the first day it’s released. Aggressive marketing campaigns months in advance of a game’s release certainly helps build the anticipation, but is it really worth NOT waiting for the inevitable price drops, patches, and reviews in the weeks following a title’s launch? In my experience, it rarely is.
First of all, the majority of games will see a price drop within the first three months of release, many much sooner. If that isn’t reason enough, the deal gets even sweeter when devs end up bundling previously paid DLC into the retail copy of the game– sometimes for even less than the game originally debuted for without Continue reading “#ThoughtsOnGaming: Avoiding Buying Games at Launch May Not Be A Bad Idea” »

Have sales of the Galaxy S II (practically an iPhone 4 clone) allowed Samsung to pass Apple as the top smartphone vendor?
If the analysts are to be believed, Samsung did just exactly that, surpassing Apple during the third quarter with 27.8 million smartphone shipments in contrast to Apple’s 17.1 million. These numbers account for Samsung capturing 23.8 percent of the global smartphone market (in shipments) and Apple with 14.6 percent, this according to a report from Strategy Analytics market research firm. Since the iPhone 4S was launched to the public on Friday, October 14th, it has already broken pre-order records, been taken apart, and now launched into space as a tribute to Steve Jobs and smashed to pieces in a drop test against the Galaxy S II.
The guys over at Final Cut King just posted this video (below) showing two iPhone 4Ss going into space attached to a weather balloon and landing safely thanks to a parachute and cases from OtterBox. Some are calling this video out as being a fake, however, as FinalCutKing is known for his visual effect and Final Cut Pro skills. You be the judge. Here’s an explanation uploaded with the video: Continue reading “Apple’s iPhone 4S lands safely from space but fails in drop test” »

We told you a little while back about Atari’s plans to release an official arcade cabinet accessory for iPad, publisher Taito must have been taking note as they now too have a Space Invaders inspired arcade cabinet of their own.
iNVADERCADE, as it’s called, will be as close of a replica to the original Space Invaders cabinet from the 70′s as possible, only this time scaled down and powered with an iPad running the official Space Invaders HD iPad app. Continue reading “iNVADERCADE: A Space Invaders arcade cabinet for iPad” »
