98DA715A52F10DEED1116BBF65E0Rumors have been surfacing all over the internet lately that the next Xbox will require players to be connected to the internet at all times, something that has many gamers and critics concerned. Although there may not be anything inherently bad about always online experiences, the idea that the console itself must be, presents a number of different problems as I’m sure you can imagine.

For one there are many different regions of the world where broadband internet connections aren’t reliable. We are talking about both more remote regions as well fully developed city centers. Even parts of major cities like New York and Los Angeles experience random internet black-outs with no forewarning.

482629_338088429625813_888632866_nToday we have some new details on the highly anticipated Thief reboot. A post on the Eidos Montreal blog gives us some new information on what players can expect come launch day including scalable difficulty and no kill playthroughs (via GameSpot).

In the recent coverage of the game the team talked about how it intended to tone down the gothic look and feel of Garrett to make him more “mainstream.” This raised some concern among long time fans of the series.

It looks as though these concerns may have been blown out of proportion as the team seems to be scaling the character back to more closely reflect the Garrett of past entries. Thief game director, Nicolas Cantin had this to say:

Screen Shot 2013-03-20 at 1.47.22 PMWe last reported to on Carmageddon: Reincarnation after it ran a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $400,000. After development was extended over last holiday season, today we have news that the game will be evolved and making its way to next gen platforms.

When the game ran its Kickstarter campaign it was planned to be available for PC, Mac and Linux and that it would release around now. Carmageddon: Reincarnation might remind you of a more modern Twisted Metal, just with even more pedestrians who, for whatever reason, can’t stay out of the streets.

Announced today, Carmageddon: Reincarnation has raised an additional $3.5 million through private funding and the game will evolve into including all the bells and whistles of a full console title, Stainless Games co-founder Neil Barnden told Eurogamer.

Microsoft plans to launch an Xbox set-top box as a lower cost alternative to the full Xbox console. According to The Verge, multiple sources familiar with Microsoft’s future intentions have confirmed the device.

With Microsoft’s obvious attempt to begin taking over the living room, the new set-top box will bring core entertainment services and allow users to choose between the stripped down set-top box or a full next-gen Xbox. The reports are claiming that the new set-top box will bring casual gaming to the living room as opposed to full on next-gen Xbox titles and is part of a two-SKU plan Microsoft will be unveiling come 2013.

Ubisoft teased us some time ago now with early footage of Rainbow 6: Patriots and then more recently we heard about three of the development leads parting ways with the studio.

This lead many to wonder if the titles was indeed still happening or not. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, today we get word from Ubisoft courtesy of Polygon that although Rainbow 6 is still definitely in development, it may not be coming anytime soon.

With next-gen technology in the works at both Microsoft and Sony, it is no surprise that Ubisoft is saying the game could be on its way to next generation hardware.

Bethesda has recently come out saying that it is unsure whether or not the company will be supporting the Wii U.

According to IGN (via MCV) Pete Hines, the Vice President of PR and marketing at Bethesda, said that normally the company releases on all platforms that will support them. At this point, Hines explains, Nintendo has yet to do so with the Wii U and whether or not the “Wii U does down the road is TBD.”

Although Bethesda, like any developer, is excited about what the next generation can hold in terms of innovation and raw power, Hines says that he disagrees with the fact that this console generation has lasted too long. Continue reading “Daily Gaming: Bethesda Might Not Support the Wii U” »

Recently we reported to you on some troubling news with The Last Guardian’s trademark being abandoned. Although not officially cancelled many felt as though this was the final straw that would eventually convert the title into vaporware.Today we get word from Sony confirming that there is nothing to worry about saying that the title is still in development and will indeed release on the Playstation 3.

Shuhei Yoshida from Sony World Wide Studios told Eurogamer today at Gamescom in Germany that the title is just simply delayed due to a number of complicated technical issues.

Some have suggested that the game’s impressive visual quality and groundbreaking game mechanics are just taking a while to get a handle of. Continue reading “Daily Gaming: The Last Guardian Confirmed As Still in Development for PS3” »

A new Microsoft job listing says we will be seeing the next-gen Xbox within a year and half. According to IDG a recent and now deleted job posting on the Microsoft Careers Website accidentally leaked information on upcoming Microsoft products, including a new Xbox, with release dates in the next 18 months.

It is still unclear and certainly unofficial as to whether or not the listing was referring to a hardware upgrade or just a software update for the Xbox 360.

The publication claims Microsoft has been telling select partners about the lack of a disc drive in briefings related to the new console.

MCV’s source said this information comes under what they are describing as “the strictest NDA they have ever encountered.” It also being said that, although a disc drive will be absent, there will be some kind of Continue reading “The “Next” Xbox Will Not Have A Disc Drive” »

The image on the right is a mock up of what the iPhone 5 could possibly look like based on an icon discovered by our friends over at 9to5Mac in the latest Photo Stream beta.

The icon strangely doesn’t resemble a current Apple product that we know of, leading many to believe Apple has changed the icon for iOS 5 elements in order to closer resemble the next-gen iPhone. Notice the elongated yet shorter Home button, and the dimensions of the casing surrounding the display. Continue reading “Is this what the iPhone 5 looks like?” »
