There’s a reason it’s called March Madness, besides the fact that generally psychotic behavior overcomes basketball fans around the country every year around this time. Yep, the shockwaves Springtime sends outside the NCAA world can be felt even by those who wish to avoid it at all costs, or even don’t own a TV set.
For the reluctant learner, now there’s a translator that promises to make it a lot easier: Star Wars.

If you thought U.S. prosecution of marijuana laws seemed borderline fascist, you probably haven’t been to the Ukraine, where the plant is strictly outlawed — and any attempt to grow, possess, or distribute it is meant with swift punishment.
The most recent crackdown on these Russian dispensaries was led by none other than the Sith Lord himself, complete with stormtroopers and gas bombs. The end result is pretty entertaining, if only because these stormtroopers come across as even bigger assholes than the ones in the movies. To any anxious Star Wars fans eagerly anticipating (dreading?) J.J. Abrams’ new take on the franchise, this video from The Stunt People may just sate your appetite for a short while. Or a long while, short though it may be. It’s that good.
Yesterday we posted an epic Star Wars/Schoolhouse Rock mash-up (which, yes, is actually a thing) and today it’s this video from the Stunt People.

Why didn’t anyone think of this before?
The original Star Wars films have been mashed up with schoolhouse rock’s “Interjections” — a perfect blend of 70′s cinematic and musical styles, to produce “STAR WARS ROCK – interjections.”
All of your favorite Star Wars exclamations are turned into interjections, including:
Brother sister kissing, It’s a trap, and Luke Skywalker’s defiant realization.
The most surprising thing about the video is that four users had the balls to dislike it, and that it has taken over 40 years for Schoolhouse Rock and Star Wars to come to something of a marriage.
The video was uploaded by the user OneMinuteGalactica, who has several other Star Wars film on the docket, namely videos involving flatulents.

If you’ve never heard of How it Should Have Ended, a group of animators that have provided alternate endings for pretty much every movie to come out — The Dark Knight Rises and the Game of Thrones finale among them — you’re missing something. The animation looks like basic flash-type stuff but it’s also impeccably rendered and just looks fun.
Now it looks like Stan Lee has decided to get together with HISHE and provide endings for a lot of legendary films, some more ‘legendary’ than others, in something called Stan’s Rants, all part of his World of Heroes channel. The ‘We The People’ site and White House officials may have shut down fans’ hopes to build a real-life Death Star, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred any Star Wars fans.
After getting the kibash from petition site WhiteHouse.org, entrepreneurs Simon Kwan and Ed Dean have launched a Kickstarter campaign to build a real-life squadron of X-Wing Fighters. More specifically, a squadron of X-Wings to take on the aforementioned not-real Death Star. Continue reading “Star Wars Fans Defiant, Respond to Death Star Shutdown With X-Wing Kickstarter Fund” »

When a flurry of different directors was mentioned as next in line to direct the next Star Wars film, a lot of us got excited, and with good reason: JJ. Abrams was (apparently) one of many big names to turn the project down. This meant, at least, that they were looking at some good candidates. Others included Guillermo Del Toro and Brad Bird, and for one reason or another, it didn’t work out with any of them.
But as of late last week it’s become official that Abrams is indeed set to direct Episode VII. So how exactly is this going to work out, given that Abrams’ usual creative partners (so far) aren’t involved? Continue reading “J.J. After reaching out to families and victims of the Colorado movie theater shooting tragedy last year, Dark Knight actor Christian Bale is once again showing signs he really might be Batman: this time he’s reaching out to Zach Guillot, an 8-year-old leukemia patient who’s been suffering from the disease since 2009.
Zach, it also turns out, may be one of the biggest Batman fans on Earth, and in a video uploaded to Zach’s YouTube channel, shares some stories of how the Dark Knight has inspired him over the years. A few years ago, Marvel was bought out by Disney in what many considered an unthinkable — or at least unexpected — acquisition. Only 3 or so years later, another buyout some might not have seen coming has occurred: Marvel has now re-acquired the rights to Star Wars comic books after Dark Horse’s (somewhat) fruitful 21+ years with the George Lucas property.
Which means, essentially, that Disney now owns Star Wars comics, a couple months after they bought Lucasfilm’s film rights. Continue reading “Dark Horse Comics Gives ‘Star Wars’ Back to Marvel” »

Though the Death Star Trench one has gone down in history as the more famous Star Wars space battle sequence, the final battle of Return of the Jedi gave us some equally thrilling moments as well. From Admiral Ackbar screaming “It’s a Trap!” to everyone’s favorite screaming A-Wing pilot crashing into the bridge of the Executor, it turns out there may have been more to the battle than we originally saw.
Star Wars Aficionado recently unearthed some images from the Blu-Ray Return of the Jedi release showing that originally, four female Rebel Alliance pilots were set to join their colleagues in the attack on the second Death Star. But for unknown reasons, most of them were cut from appearing in the film, and the sole female A-Wing pilot who appeared had her line dubbed over by a Male Voice Actor. The former employee didn’t agree at all with Ellis’s comments saying that what he said was “just bullsh*t.”

As we reported earlier today, Star Wars Episode 7 is officially planned for a 2015 release, with its other sequels due out over the following four years. What is uncertain is what role, if any, George Lucas will play in it all. It’s also worth noting that Disney now owns the rights to ‘Indiana Jones’ as well.
Rumors say that Lucas has written treatments for all 3 films, and will likely serve as a creative consultant on the new trilogy, and no more. Continue reading “What the Lucasfilm Buyout Means for “Star Wars”; Hurricane Sandy Damages Cinema History” »

What may be one of the latest and greatest in Flash Mobs of all time actually begins with a couple of guys in leather carrying suitcases through the middle of a German crowded market before exchanging glances and setting them down in the middle of the street.
While this sounds like just one of several things that were missing from the new Die Hard movie trailer, it’s actually just part of their set-up for a lavish and extensive flash-mob orchestra playing the Star Wars theme. …which may be more than we thought. Forget The Phantom Menace, how many remastered versions of Episodes IV-VI has Lucas made over the past 15 years? (The total numbers of re-releases is 3, by the way, with well over a hundred changes Episode IV alone.) More than Prometheus, more than Blade Runner with the Deckard voice-over, more than the 80th re-dubbed version of Akira, the Star Wars movies and their re-edits have incensed fans to no end.
Now one man has decided to change that — by going in and fixing everything that Lucas got wrong.
YouTuber Adywan calls his project Star Wars Revisited. He’s been at it since 2004, beginning with A New Hope, Continue reading “Man Sets Out to Fix Everything That’s Wrong With Star Wars Movies” »
