Director Guillermo del Toro, who is previously responsible for films like Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth, revealed the trailer to his newest project last night.

The film is called Pacific Rim and it will feature voice actor Ellen McLain as a robot AI. McLain did the voice work for Portal’s antagonist GLaDOS (via Polygon).

As you can see in the trailer below (0:47 sec), the AI in the film has the same audio processing on it as GLaDOS does in Portal.

The Internet’s favorite cute geek violinist Lindsey Stirling is back, a mere couple of months following her outstanding tributes to Zelda and Skyrim –  the latter of which boasted the vocal talents of Peter Hollins, who possesses an uncanny ability to sing entire orchestral sections using a meticulously-produced layering of vocal tracks.

Their most recent music video take on Ramin Djawadi’s beloved Celtic-flavored score for Game of Thrones proves they may have trumped all their previous covers. Continue reading “Daily Viral Video: Lindsey Stirling and Peter Hollins Pwn ‘Game of Thrones’ Theme” »

It’s no secret that Apple leads the mobile industry in providing accessibility features to people with disabilities. Apple even published a “Commitment to Accessibility” on its website and has been awarded with several honors related to accessibility features like VoiceOver and support for braille displays in iOS 5. With Siri, Apple has an even greater opportunity to revolutionize the way disabled people interact with their devices.

One heartwarming example of this comes from a man who lost his voice as a child but recently took the stage for his very first stand-up comedy gig with the help of a text-to-voice app and an iPad.

ElectricPig pointed us to the video of Lee Ridley, aka ‘Lost Voice Guy’, who took the stage using the ‘Speak It!’ iPad app to covert text into the voice you hear in the video (below). Ridley has Continue reading “iPad Gives Disabled Comedian A Voice For First Stand-Up Gig” »

gameloft-voice-chatOne of the biggest mobile game publishers on the market, Gameloft, is getting set to introduce a new gaming feature on smartphones that was previously unavailable — in-game voice chat over 4G on Android devices.

Gameloft made things official at the Qualcomm booth during CES 2012 this month by announcing that they would initially be partnering with Verizon to roll the service out across devices on its 4G LTE network.

We now know the first game to get in-game chat will be Ashphalt 6: Adrenaline and the feature will be rolling out to users across various Gameloft titles later this year. Continue reading “Gameloft Rolling Out In-Game Voice Chat To Android Devices Later This Year” »

Okay, that’s an exaggeration. Nolan is too much of a gentlemanly, tea-taking Brit to utter such expletives to loyal fans (we hope).

BUT after the online debut of pirated/studio-endorsed Dark Knight Rises trailers, general response has been pretty f*cking ecstatic, except for the fact that no one can understand what the f*ck that creepy looking masked guy in the prologue/trailer is saying.

That would be Tom Hardy playing Bane, and he kinda sounds like Dudley Moore if he were breathing through a resuscitator. But I understood Moore and I can for the most part understand Bane. About half of it. Sort of. The general consensus seems to be that surely Nolan will fix it with ADR or special post production vocal re-recording… Continue reading “Christopher Nolan: Can’t Hear Bane? skyrim kinectDespite being the fastest selling device (until the iPhone 4S), and an increasing amount of support from developers, it’s up to the modding community to figure out a way to integrate Kinect’s voice and motion controls into games that don’t officially support it.

Some aren’t waiting for Microsoft to hand out their $20,000 grant for Kinect hacks, with a ton of mods popping up in the last few months. Perhaps the most intriguing yet, YouTuber KinectFAAST has posted (via Destructoid) the video below showing what appears to be Kinect support for the PC version of Skryrim… Continue reading “Kinect Mod Adds Voice and Motion Control to Skyrim” »

siri joke photoWe’ve already seen a few re-imaginings of Apple’s voice-controlled Siri feature in the new iPhone 4S. First we had a voice over courtesy of Portal’s GLaDOS, then the promise of a HAL 9000 inspired-dock, and lastly a possible mind-control hack that some are calling out as fake.

Perhaps the only thing missing from these concepts is a little dose of reality. Much like Apple’s own ads for Siri, most of these concepts and products don’t depict the voice-controlled feature in the real world as we know it, but rather Apple’s fantasy world where everything is supposed to “just work”.

But today we bring you a reimagining of Siri in the real world courtesy of the guys over at CollegeHumor.

While the skit is clearly for comedy only, and not trying to point out any flaw in Siri, the voice-controlled AI does have a tendency of saying some pretty strange Continue reading “Apple’s Siri Assistant Gets Re-imagined with a Dose of Reality” »

republic wireless logoAs long as you’re willing to grab one of their special Android handsets capable of accessing the service, Republic Wireless is gearing up to launch a pretty enticing data package starting November 8th. For $19 a month, the company is offering truly unlimited voice, data, and SMS without bandwidth caps of any kind.

The service works by allowing you to place both VoIP calls over Wi-Fi, and normal calls over a conventional cellular connection. The idea here is that you’re only ever using a traditional cell connection when Wi-Fi is unavailable. SMS gets the same treatment and data will come way of 3G. The supported devices will of course also have full Wi-Fi capabilities as well. The actual switching from VoIP calls to traditional cellular network calls will happen Continue reading “$19 unlimited voice, SMS, and data anyone? Republic Wireless has you covered” »

When Apple introduced the voice-controlled, AI personal assistant known as Siri on the new iPhone 4S, many speculated that like voice-control features in the past, it probably wouldn’t be ready for everyday use and would prove too frustrating to use.

However, it wasn’t long before people started to realize just how advanced the DARPA-developed tech is and how incredibly precise and useful Siri can truly be. That isn’t to say there aren’t bugs, and it’s certainly not perfect, but it can definitely open our eyes to a future that isn’t too far off from the voice-controlled computer systems Continue reading “HAL 9000 iPhone 4S dock lets you control Siri from 50 feet away” »

Just in case you are wondering how Siri integration will work on the new iPhone 4S, below we’ll walk you through what you can expect from Apple’s new voice-controlled personal assistant. As you can see from the video below, the feature allows you to control tasks on your phone such as scheduling calendar items, reading and sending emails, sending texts, searching the web, and presumably anything that could be controlled using a voice command.

You can activate the feature by simply holding the home button briefly, much the same as the iPhone 4′s current Voice Control feature Continue reading “Apple’s new Siri personal assistant for iPhone 4S explained” »
